Blocked ports and pipe on 16v 4age bigport tvis Tue, 21 October 2003 06:54 Go to next message
After i bought my car i found out that some of the pipes were purposely blocked and a vacuum port in the throttle body was also blocked. I took some pics of them to show you. One thing to note, when i unblock the port in the throttle body the car idles at 3k. Shocked when it is covered it stays around 1k -900
can someone please tell me what each pipe and port does and whether or not it should be connected?

thanks once again

How the hell is the port in the throttle body blocked? I'd be scared of the blockage coming loose & getting *schwooooop* sucked into your engine!
That port is for the idle up valve (which is that thing bolted to the underneath of the throttle body with all the blocked lines going into it), & supplies extra air to the motor while it's cold. When it's all working normally the motor should idle at 1500-2000rpm when you first start it, then slowly drop down to 800-1000 when fully warm.
By the sounds of it, the idle up valve is faulty, or you tested it while it was , or the coolant lines that connect to it from underneath have been disconnected, so it has no heat signal.

The rest of those blocked lines are for things like power steering, air conditioning etc, and aren't needed if you don't have any of that stuff.
Mine have always been blocked off too.

The port is blocked by piece of electrical tape. i know its dodgy, im still trying to find something to jam into the hole. no wonder i have to hold the accel pedal when its cold Smile
what do i need to connect up to test if my cold start works?

thanks

Is there 2 coolant hoses going into the bottom of the t/b idle up valve?

2 pipes, about 5-10cm away from the blanked off pipes, pointing straight down.
