Check the battery terminals, as if they have an oxide coating (dark grey lead rather than bright and shiny), the additional resistance can reduce the current draw capability, and it can happen quick.
Remove the terminals and scrape both the battery posts and the inside of the clamps
Happened to me a few times before

Thanks dude. I did check that. They are a little like that and the weird thing is that the positive terminal had huge amounts of corrosion on it. But I took it off and cleaned it up.
But the thing that got me was that it didnt work any time at all, and then all of a sudden it did. All I had done was drive it 2 mins down the road.
Plus, if your battery just isnt drawing the power, wouldnt you still hear the click of the starter motor???

Same problem on a 4AC. May be a starter solenoid problem - when they get hot they don't work and wait a while as it cools and it works again. If no click, solenoid is not actuating. We cleaned the wires etc etc but occasionally still get the problem. Carry a big screwdriver in the car now and if it happens, just short positive lead from back of solenoid to terminal that joins to starter motor and she cranks over every time. It even starts if the ignition key is turned on first. Oh ... and make sure it's in neutral when you do it or you may end up in a position to do a quick oil change while you're under the car.

rofl.
Nice one.
I'll keep that in mind.
lumpy, I must of tried to turn it on about 100 times. Literally. I was desperate because I was supposed to be somewhere.
Scorpion, I was sitting in that petrol station from 7.45 till 11.30. I think it was cool by then but still wouldnt work.

If you can get to the back of the starter motor, try the screwdriver. If I get a chance tonight I'll take a picture to show you which terminals we short.
