I've seen EFI cars with charcole canisters still retained.

In my RA28 I went from carby to EFI and retained the charcole canister.

I think EFI cars still come out with charchol canisters. But I dont want one in my engine bay cause they are ugly. I realise they serve a purpose but I dont think my sprinter will be street legal anyway.

Some may but I have had cars that suck in air when the filler cap is removed. Maybe the hole is blocked??

you need a breather and it should go through a charcol canister.

You can move the charcoal cannister to the rear of the car, if you don't want it in the engine bay. I'd also put a one way valve in it to negate the boost effect on it.
I also know that some cars that come out with cannisters can get away with out one legally as they are no longer available new through the dealer, with the theory being the impossibility to find one in good condition. Many Torana owners use this excuse as they can't buy new cannisters from Holden.
Personally, I'd have a one way vent in the fuel cap.

The sprinter fuel nozzle will need the be changed to a efi type.

Sprinter fuel nozzles dont vent under vacumm, hence the charcol canister. You could always drill a very small hole in the standard cap to let out pressure, but its all up to you.

Just my 2c worth.

Answer to your original question is yes, you do. If you don't want the charcoal canister in the engine bay, remove it, shorten the pipe that runs back to the tank and fit a one-way breather valve to the end of it. Otherwise you run the risk of pressuring the tank in your EFI arrangement.
There is a guy running a 1G-GZE in his RA23 and has fitted an in-tank fuel pump and is suffering big fuel smells and tank pressure problems where the cap is almost exploding off is his hands when he stops to fuel up.
Cut into the return line at the rear and move the canister to the boot and just join up the lines in the engine bay, and you will be legal. Shame to see your car yellow stickered when otherwise it could be made street legal.
Cheers,
Mitch.
