The 18R-G will slot in about as well as any engine can.
Fuel line is in a different spot, even seem to remember that the throttle linkage is either the same or almost. Save for the exhasust and modifying the top radiator hose, it is as simple as that.
Did it eons ago in my RA23 and it was glorious.
Ended up with the following mods ;
- 9.7:1 Toyota pistons
- 36mm chokes for the Solexes
- Extractors + 2" system
- Rear disc conversion from ST142
- 4.1:1 diff centre from Corona RT104
- Yamaha head fitted with minor porting
- lowered springs + koni shocks
- Later model front brakes from Corona
- 27mm front and 18mm rear swaybars from K-Mac
- 15x7" Performance mags with 205/50x15 tyres
I had it for 8 years before selling it to the brother in law, and he had it for another 6 years. I think it had done about 440,000km by the time it was reduced to parts. Plenty of hillclimbs and trackwork as well
Do it, it was a great little car

No the 18R-G shares the same block as the 18R-C so it is a straight bolt up to the mounts and the gearbox.
from my exp putting the engine in P.O.P,
find some extractors to suit, get exhaust done.
rig up the fuel lines (pretty easy)
set up the throttle links (cable or bar works)
tune twin carbies
and let her roar.....

I think you mean bbaacchhyy, My engine went from 18R-GEU to 18R-G back to 18R-GEU and is still going strong (pending some current rattling issues that may or may not be the engine)

Ahhh.. possiblly mine I've yet had the time to look at it in any depth (but all things point to a gearbox/clutch problem)

18r-c and 18r-g are almost on par.. i'd say the 18r-g wastes a little more juice though.
From what i've heard the 18r-geu is a lot better on fuel also!

In the 18r-c I was getting about 350-380k's to a tank
In 18R-G form was getting about 280-310k's to a tank
In 18R-GEU form it is getting 370-430k's to a tank
If both the RG and R-GEU were tuned properly I'd get a little better econmomy (the 18R-GEU is idleing around the 1800rpm mark)
Jason, a few people who have heard the knocking noise seem to thing that I've got 1 of the following problems
1. the clutch itself has lost a spring and is floating in the housing..
2. the input shaft bearing is gone and is floping around on the shaft
3. the clutch housing is loose
or
4. there is still that person who thinks it is a rear engine bearing gone
With any luck I'll pull off the gearbox this weekend

Hey, CELICA_BOY_666 i just finished a 18r-c 18r-g conversion.
Im in perth, but there are a couple of things i thought i might mension that i had to change...and things that might come in handy. THe throttle linages are COMPLETEly different but the fuel line is the same (sorry bbaacchhyy.
If you need any help with the linkages i have pictures and diagrams i can show u, of how i built my new linkages using the originals. PM me if u need.
Other points-
- Make sure you check the thrustbearing and clutch before you put the new engine in, it will save you alot of trouble and money later down the line.
- dizzy has to be rewired, original lead doesnt reach the new dizzy position.
-Do not let your friends tighten your rocker cover - aka my mates are absolute dum ****s.
Yeh, and good luck with hte conversion
Steve

Yeh, look ill email them to ya, the conversion was easy...
slipped straight in, same gearbox and all. The linkages took time, but i rather linkages than cable myself.
Im a 15yr old and this is my first project car that i started 1 year ago now. But im a hands on person, so im not sure.
you wont have any problems belive me. If you do its only small simple things i guarantee.

for the accelerator all you do is get a cable out of a vh commodore and turn it around and it works like a charm. Also some of the rg,s have two wires off the distributor like mine did(very rare though) so u need to look out for the that.

My ra23 went from 18RG to 18RC to 18RG again. for the c to g conversion i had to go to 8mm fuel lines, also ended up with electric fuel pump, put a generic $14 cable in for throttle, used same box, the clutches are the same, mine already had extractors but you can buy pacemakers to suit them, contact your local exhaust place for that. The fuel lines are only really different from the fuel pump onward, as the standard pump is located on the same place on the block. I used the same top radiator hose, just had to twist it around a bit. blocked off the heater hoses (dont need that in nq) but the engine mounts are the same, make sure you get an rg with a rear pickup sump. otherwise the lead to the dizzy was the only other problem. You can buy top gun ignition leads from autobarn specifically for an 18RG for $44, but i had to replace my coil to dissy lead with a shorter one.
have fun and hope you go through with the conversion.
