Canberra school zones

Just taking time out to whinge about the school zones in Canberra.
A school zone is in effect between 8am and 4pm!! How stupid is that when you consider that kids aren't allowed out of the school grounds between those times.
Even worse is that these school zones are also around high schools!
If a kid is in high school and doesn't know how to cross the road, they should be run over IMO!!
Anyway, that's my rant for the day. Not very PC, but I'm not a very PC sorta guy...

Damn you mean those signs mean 40 Km/h ??
I thought they where the amount of points you get for running a kid down

Precisely!!
In Sydney, they're 8am-9:30am and 2:30pm to 4pm. School is from 9am to 3pm so it covers the times when the kids are going to/from school.
All day is freaking stupid!!

Nah, I've got a high school near my place and I have to drive through the schoolzone during lunch. It's freaking annoying.

I have no problem with them being around high school's. High schools here generally tend to have more kids then primary schools, so there's heaps more people wandering around. But all day is freaking stupid, I agree

Nark, there is a highschool (my old one) which is a "School Zone" from like 7:30am to 6:00pm... no breaks during the day.
The school works in 2 shifts, where Yr7-10 operate from 8am-1:45pm and Yr11-12 operate from 12pm-5:30pm.
Lucky I never have to drive past there... it might as well be 40km/h all the time since they've made it almost 12 hours of the day

here in the tropical paradise of colac ( pun intended ) we go thru 12 speedzones on a 6 km stretch , because of school
it goes like this :
from the east side 100 - 80 - 60 - 40 - 60 - 50 - 40 - 50 - 60 - 40 - 60 - 80 - 100 West side of town
thats on one road - thru the centre of town ( princes highway )
all because of the fucked up speed laws victoria has ..
In that time you can expect to see 2 camera cars , and at least 1 mobile radar car ..
Were also the head branch for the princes highway highway pursuit squad ... so we have an unusually large amount of mobile radar cars - marked AND unmarked
Sucks to speed in this town !

in sturt street in ballarat, theres little one way side streets running along the same way- so you can get access to houses etc. there are also about 3 school zones.
the first day my mate got his Ps, he'd burn down the sidestreets in his SA63 so he "didn't have to do 40"
fuck it was fun prolly more dangerous and illegal than speeding in the main street
