Which Box 3TGTEU

Hey guys, can anyone tell me which 5 speed box to use behind a real grunter 3TGTEU. I know the TA 23/23 T series box from 2T's fits, however is it really strong enough to handle the torque?. I know of 1 guy with a TA 22 with a 4AGZE in it, and boxes only last about 3 months . Checking the engine backing plate against other engines has given no result in finding a gearbox which would bolt straight up.
Any help would be really appreciated, thanks guys.

From the Factory the 3TGTE is fitted with a W55. Finding the Bellhousing to mate W series boxes to the T series Block is getting alot more difficult.
I am yet to confirm it 100% but apparently the 1GG series Boxes will also bolt to the T series block Only drawback is the Slave Cylinder will be on the wrong side
A T50 (The factory manual Gearbox founf behind the 2T and 2T-G) is not at all suited to the level of power produced by a 3TGTE. It will work but no Guarantees for how long.

I have seen two different types of boxes fitted to 3tgte. One is the T series ones you are talking about and the other is what I call the supra style box, which I have in my car. This box came with the engine when I brought it, from what I've seen the T series boxes are not as big and have a smaller input shaft(clutch to gearbox). Also I have floged the you not what out of mine for 5 years now and gearbox is still going strong. Hope this helps.

Yup, as said, the 3TGTE comes from Japan with a supra style W55 box.
The T50 has a significantly smaller input & output shaft, and is much less beefy inside. I've got a T50 behind mine (cant find an affordable W55 with 3T bellhousing at the moment) and I havnt made one go BANG yet, but the bearings start to whine pretty bad after a while. the gears on the lay shaft were pretty shagged too on two of the boxes ive had, with a nice lip on one side of each tooth!

Thanks for the response guys. I spoke to Steve Millar (Pristine White RA35 GTV) he has been playing with Celica's since 1972, and he advised me that the W55/W58 was the go. Most 3TGT's arrived in Aus. without boxes. I am considering a Dellow Adapter, as has been said the bellhousings are rare. again thanks for the input guys. Regards: Chuck Landwehr

I called Dellow for an adapter for a 3TGTEU a few months ago, they told me they dont make one to fit the W55-59 supra boxes.
