The Lexus mod will get you well beyond 14psi... closer to 20psi from memory. Beyond that you'd have to buy a fuel cut defender, and there's a wide variety of those available for 7M's.

Thanks Norbie,
I guess if you are heading towards the 17 - 20psi mark, then a better fuel pump (as well as a better turbo) is in order ?
As well as some prayers for the HG. I was realistically only looking to stay around the 14 - 15psi mark ...... well it will do for a start
On fuel pumps, Bosch or Walbro ??
AFPR - any suggestions ??
Cheers

just wondering if you have torqued the head down or replaced the gasket with a metal version yet??
If not i seriously recommend against running those boost levels... or even running your car at all for that matter! Head gasket blowing is inevitable
ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME

Apparently the HG was replaced about 40,000km ago with a std version and torqued to 70ftlbs.
I can't really verify this, and hence the desire to purchase a 2nd hand head (from local pick a part wrecker for $83), reco it and get it ready for the inevitable, replace the studs with ARP and then try and stick to the 15psi
I'm only running 8 psi at the moment, and until I get engineering approval done, I won't be touching anything.
Also, I am not really interested at this stage in fully rebuilding the motor, and hence won't seriously look at the MHG unless absolutely necessary. It is meant to be a cheap fun car, and it is already heaps of fun
Cheers

$83 for a 2nd hand head?? cripes thats cheap... be making sure the thing isn't cracked already
i recommend going to your local toyota parts place and getting a metal head gasket. They got me what was supposed to be a TRD metal one for $400!... it was metal, i don't care
ARP studs i got from the Victorian Performance Warehouse for $250 something.
Have you had any luck sourcing a Lexus AFM yet??

The headis on a MX83 Cressida at a local Pick a Part wrecker - hence the low price. Only glanced at it the other day when I was collecting my MS65 hubs for the 5 stud conversion.
Will ahve to look at the head more closely, but as it is a 7M-GE, it is much less likely to have a problem, but 45 minutes work will show most problems, and it oonly costs a buck to get in.
No haven't got an AFM yet, but have set JAZE onto the task
Rigoli's wanted $280 for the studs, and trying to get the VRS gasket kit through a mate for a good price. If I get a MHG, it seems like I have to deck the block as well (which means a full rebuild), and as the car will not be a daily driver, it is more hassle than I really want/need.
I'll wait and treat my baby nice till then
Cheers

VRS kit thru Repco @ trade price was about 200 odd dollars.
MHG thru Penrith toyota is your best bet. Mention Toymods for further discount.
ARP Studs, ebay.com if your not afraid of it. Much much cheaper through the yanks. They have/had heaps when I was searching.
I would deck the block.
Is the 7M-GE head the same?!

rvrolla,
Yeah, the heads are the same, but the inlet cam (from the forums) is different and has a positive effect on the GTE's.
I'll try Penrith Toyota for the MHG.
Decking the block gets me into full rebuild territory, which adds up to heaps of bucks at the moment. If I can stumble across a spare 7M-GTE engine in Adelaide for the right price, I'll consider doing it then, and only then.
Allan,
Thanks for that pointer, I'll check it out when I have a look at the head tomorrow. It also depends on how many k's the car has done, and what it appears to be in the yard for - damage or dead engine/box ?
Cheers

hey guys i've gotta get a vrs kit for my '84 Cressy 5M, and i work at toyota and can get a bit of a discount but they are pretty stingy so i was thinking about maybe a repco one or other. Can anyone tell me if the Repco one would be as good as the Toyota one? I don't wanna save 80bucks or whatever then need to buy another one 6months down the track. Any suggestions?
cheers, André
