7A-FE tachometer installation

does anyone know where the tacho signal wire goes on these engines? i have heard it goes to the negative side of the ignition coil although i have some kind of internal ignition coil that is in the distributor.

It goes to the -ve of the coil, or the tacho ouput(if your car already has a tacho). Sometimes the coil can be in or right near the distrib cap. Have a fish around with a multimeter(being careful!) or take it to an auto elec, get him to probe the wires for you then hook it up at home.

there is a signal behind the cluster
black wire not plugged into anything unless u have a tacho in the dash

The there's two wires (black and yellow) that come out of the dizzy two a seperate two wire plug (small one, not the big 4 wire) if standard wiring, the yellow goes to a black/yellow stripe wire and the other connects to a black wire which goes to the diagnosis plug.... connect the signal to the tacho to the BLACK. Any where else, you'll blow your tacho.. Al, 7AFE has internal coil, igniter, etc (one unit).... really bitch if something goes wrong!!
