Hi all
I purchased a turbo MR2 half cut from Asian Auto Spares in Queensland. I have done a compression test on the motor and I have different compression readings from 125 up to 165 depending on which cylinder.
I also have oil in the piping between air filter and turbo, turbo to intercooler and intercooler to motor. I also have smoke coming out of the exhaust when I test the motor on a dyno with higher revs around 5500rpm.
Can anyone explain to me what the posibilities could be wrong with my motor? Is it definetly the rings gone? Is their any chance it could be a hose or something similar? What can cause compression differences?
regards,
Richard richard@satworld.com.au

What condition is the halfcut in? You may find that the oil in the hoses and the smoke is because the halfcut has been on its end, upside down and every other way! Myself and a mate had this exact same problem a while ago when we got a SR20 halfcut! As for the compression problem, I cant help you there! Sorry.

Richard, sorry buddy 40psi difference between cylinders, it needs a rebuild.
Toyota engines generally specify a max difference between cylinders of 25psi.
Your lowest at 125psi is a tad too low, especially for a performance engine. Get a refund or exchange.

the oil traces is from the PCV bypassing back to the intake at high rpm, you get oil build up, the 3S is renowned for this....get a oil/air seperator, this solved it for mine.....low compression well...rings possibly?

Only thing is, don't condemn the engine until it's been run for a reasonable amount - import engines that have been thrown all over the countryside, not turned over in months and generally treated in a very unloved fashion often appear lousy the first time you look at them. Dyno testing still in the ½ cut? Theres an interesting concept! So basically, give it an oil change, give it some Km's, it just might turn it good, if it don't, rebuild it.

Hi
I have the import motor installed in my road going car and that is how it goes on the dyno! I have done about 500 k's allready with it and the problem has not gone away.
Who the hell sells better engine components in Australia for my motor such as pistons/crank/rings etc?
regards,
Richard

Damn! I was hoping someone was FINALLY silly enough to be driving around in a ½ cut! Something I've always wanted to try...
Try having a talk to Sean from IDB (cant remember the number off the top of my head), he might be able to point to at some parts for the engine.
