It has a central box with one red cable from one end with a screwdown cable joiner. then a red and blue cable from the other end of the box with battery terminal ends. does it go on the battery and the other elsewhere or?
any help is great guys,

The end with the blue and red wires go to the battery(red = Positive and blue = Negitive).
The other end with the single red wire goes to the stereo main supply line.

If the noise supressor is for your audio system then i would be very dubious of the installation.
Alot of "professional" installers can't be bothered to wire 'every day joes' system perfectly and prefer to whack on one of these noise supressors to save an extra 30mins.
If you have wired your system in the garage the answer is simple:
Run all your power wires down 1 side of the car, and all the signal (speaker) wires down the other.
Do not stinge on cheap wire and avoid bends / crimps and excess lengths of wire.
Ever heard the motto, it's the $2 parts that ruin your day ?

Are your actually have a problem with noise through your stereo? Normally when you fit a new "bigger" stereo to an older car or any car for that matter you will run a new supply line from the stereo to the battery!
But you dont need to have that filter right near the battery, you can have it hidden under the dash.
Hell bring a six pack down here next weekend and i'll fit it for you.

Most noise issues with stereo systems are not caused by crap installs, they are caused by noisy ignitions and alternators!
