Tell me more about the 22RE ECU. What is it out of - I thought all the Hiluxs were carbed. IS it in fact different from the '85 ECU?

whats this hilux crap?... 22R's were fitted to a few cars,RT142 ,RA65,RJ73,RN85. the RN85 and RJ73 were both carb type..and the passenger engines were all EFI. the RT142 was the first in aust to have the 22RE, was released in 84 and the RA65 in 85?...? its from a corona RT142 late....87 avante so it has the ignitor controlled advance..and the late engines had knock sencors.. i have an RT142 wagon which has the late engine with early EFI/ECU..

No, Ra65 was the '85 year model but actually intorduced in mid 84, same as the Corona one I think. I didn't realise the later Coronas had the 22RE.
Must be TCCS EFI that the rest of the world got in 85 but we didn't 'cos we were running leaded petrol. So we have short block 22REs for 85 but with the older analog EFI other places like the US had on the pre-85 tall block 22R/Es. The TCCS one has a knock sensor as well as the non-vacum advance dizzy and would also have to have an o2 sensor in the manifold. The TCCS system is supposed to be better stock, but is less 'mod friendly'

stef,
save you money mate all 22re are built with hardened valve seats so all can run premium unleaded
octane does not give you power anyway just reduces chances of pinging, some later ecu's can adjust timing to take advantage of the higher octane but most cant

Hi Rob,
I'd like the 4AGE T50 RWD gearbox. I may be able to organise freight myself without any hassles as well.
please email me directly at fergo308@hotmail.com,and we'll sort out payment, delivery and such.

I wasn't about to spend $100 on an ECU I don't need, would have trouble adding and which would be harder to tune once I do some real mods, don't worry Was just interested that we got the TCCS EFI after '85, as I didn't realise we did.
