Ive heard that the power and/or torque is less with the autos than the manuals. If this is true, what is different between the engines? Camshaft timing, computer?
I've heard similar comments. Most Soarer owners cire about 5-10rwkw less for autos. The stock auto ecu does retard while changing gears, but I don't think this will rob a lot of power. I'm assuming that there is a greater power loss in getting power to the wheels as auto's have more moving parts to sap power. Some of this might be fixable by rebuilding the autobox with a firmer shift and parts.
I'd say it may have something to do with the fact that an auto tranny has the ability to load up an engine more for a given rev/boost point within the ECU's maps.
Toyota more than likley retard the timing a bit to compensate for this.
