I'm in need of a Cressida guru... Thu, 30 October 2003 00:10 Go to next message
Basically, I'm after a cressy for a GTE conversion, but I know there's a few different flavours to choose from. Should I go after the GLX, GLXi, Grande...?

I'm unsure if there's any differences in the brake packages they come with, driveline, diff, etc - I'd like to know which model is best suited to the conversion. I know there's quite a few nutters here who have done this conversion, so any help would be great!

Grande is the one you want; it comes with an LSD from the factory, which is a must with a turbo engine!

grande also has ABS
the leather is a bit of a hassle tho Confused

before the grande was released i think the GLXi had some grande options on them.

MX83 Grande has ABS and LSD
MX83 GLX doesn't
GLXi is actually a MX73 (boxier early model)

91-92 mx83 already has correct crossmember for 1JZ engine

It all depends on how much pocket money you have Smile

Well this is the add I was interested in:

TOYOTA CRESSIDA GRANDE 1990, auto burgundy, service history, 06/2004 rego, GGM-673, $6000

That sounds to me like an mx73. Would that be right? If so, that's not really what I'd be after from a conversion point of view then, is it?

No, Its a MX83, should be fine for conversion but you will need a jzx81 front cut

Well, a deposit has been taken on my old car, so it seems I might be becoming a bit more of a regular here now!

Getting back to the jzx81 front cut - was that ever locally available here, or is it an import? What I'm really getting at is will it be difficult to find? Also, a bit more clarification on the mx73 and mx83. What years did these models run, and was there any overlap?
