Weight - 18RG vs 2TG Tue, 23 July 2002 03:00 Go to next message
heys guys ..

Just need to know the block weight difference between a 2tg and a 18RG

Thinking of other conversion options for my ta22 motor wise .. heard the 18rg's weigh heaps more + would upset the balance of the ta22 - Is this true ?

Also conversion wise what would you need to put an 18rg+w50 in a ta22?

Id think the 18RG would be a fair bit heavier. R series motors weigh a ton. I should know, one nearly broke my leg.

Cheers

ra23's are longer in the front than a ta22 and handle the balance of haivng a 18rg installed

a ta22 with a 18rg would be shit to drive, too much weight forwards of the wheels

2tg has an alloy head too so it should be a lot lighter

For the work required, an 18R-G in a TA22 isn't worth the effort. The 3T-GTE is a much easier conversion and has a fair bit more power too.

dont quote me - but i think the 4age is the lighter of the two - the 2t has more " meat " in the block i believe - and especially the old ones - more cast iron hanging off the side

on a note though it took me and my dad a good half hour to shift a complete 2t block into the shed - there was no hope of lifting it - so it was semi dragged on boards ..

What? When we pulled the 2T out of my celica we carried it down the road! I agree that it was heavy but not that heavy!

18r Series bnlocks are firggen heavy as anything. it took 2 people to lift a bare 18R block into the boot of a hatchback. from memory i recall the 18R-G being about 170 kg. and the 18R-g series motors have alloy heads too
