Dialling in Solex carburettors.

Hi.
I'm running a pair of Mikini/Solex dual-throat carburettors on a 2T-G. I'm wondering how to go about dialing them in as best I can.
So far I've tried to, in order...
Set the idle screws full closed, then
Visually balanced the throttles (so both open simultaneously), then
Dial out the idle screws progressively, maintaining balance of approx +/- 180degrees of screw rotation (ie. half a complete turn)...
When the idle screw allows the car to start and idle, I've then tried to dial in the idle screws until the engine seems to run smooth (maintaining balance) with no real misfire or exhaust pop.
Then, I've found that adjusting the centre idle stop screw in and out will push the idle up at each end of its travel, so I've tried to hit that happy medium where the idle is lowest.
At this point the idle is around 1100RPM. Shouldn't it be lower than this?
Suggestions?

i would think that because of the engine's extra breathability with individual throats it would idle higher anyways? at least that's been my experience...?

Car's not registered at the minute, my friend. Just trying to dial it in cleanly as a matter of academic interest. I'll get it dialled in properly before the car hits the road.
Thanks for your offer!

You need to check and adjust fuel levels. Take one of the jet holders out of each carby when it is running, look down the hole at the fuel level. Higher makes it rich, lower makes it lean. There is a measurement in the book for base setting, then tune from that.
Factory idle spec says 1000rpm +- 100rpm.
If you have a flatspot, that is to do with the accelerator pumps and jets. Take carbs off engine and open the throttles to check, should do a wee of fuel from behind each throttle. Adjust the linkage so it works for all throttle opening movements.

"hey dude" just because your tuning is further out of spec than mine doesn't mean mine is okay.

dealing with duel carb setup is not that difficult. You should make sure that there are no intake leaks. then that the correct pressure is available at the carbs. set the idle mixture screws about 1.5 to 2 turns out then ensure they are in synch. You can use a unisyn or other tool or use two vacum gauges. one hooked to each intake between the butterfly and the head. The gauges that are fluid dampened are the best type because they don't bounce so much. Then warm the car up and adjust the idle screws until the gauges read the same. once the carbs are in synch you can adjust the idle speed and then the idle mixture screws. To adjust the mixture turn the screw in until the rpms change then counting the number of turns out until the rpms start to drop off again ( rich ) divide the number of turns by two and turn in the screw that many of turns then go to the next screw. This will set the mixture at idle for the jets you have in the carbs. the jetting for the carbs should be done with other tests. I have a mikuni manual that explains this and I used it for my 2tg when i set it up. I tried to scan it but it took up too much memory. So, it you want a copy send me your mailing address and I will try to copy it and send it to you. I live stateside so it may take a day or two. Let me know . Be safe

Greg, that'd be great. Thanks for taking the time to set out the process for me.
I'll PM you my address - if you have the time I'd love copies of whatever 2T-G / Mikuni related stuff you have.
