Whatever the factory recommends will be just fine. There are no performance gains to be had with spark plugs, despite what some people will try to tell you.

Agree with Norbs. The only advantage with Platinum plugs is that you'll go faster as your wallet is lighter Very Happy Same goes for some of these mega-buck ignition systems that the yanks love. AWOFMIMHO, FWIW Surprised

People who spend $150 bucks on plugs swear that they can feel the difference when they drive it Rolling Eyes

Even with 10kW difference, the 'ol bum dyno isn't that sensitive.

Above all, make sure the plugs are uin good nick, the right heat range, and most of all the correct gap, and you'll be laughing Laughing

Haha, when you're dealing with 67kW total a difference like that is noticable! Smile

Seriously though, these guys are right, the only real way you'll notice a performance difference is if there is something wrong with your plugs in the first place.

Champion GOLD plugs - about 5 or 6 bucks each and they won some spark plug shoot out I read a few years back. In the shoot out some of the platnium babies were worse off than the plugs that came with the car from the factory.

I am currently using the NGK irdiums and they are great it depends really on what mods you have got in your car if you have a few then putting in a performance plug is only going to help enhance the what you have but if you have a stock as a rock then stick to the off the shelf $6 sparks

wtf is a 'performance plug'

sure, you might need a colder heat range, but there isnt any kind of 'performance plug' that will 'enhance' existing mods...

all youd be attempting to do is mount an alternative heat plug so the engine doesnt pre-ignite its titties off

6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other.

As a car company employee (senior Manufacturing Engineer), I can confirm that they spend an absolute fortune (compared to what we spend) in making sure that everything works (quality from the suppliers aside) as it is intended.

Platinum spark plugs and such like are often used to get out of the warranty period of the vehicle - ever noticed how many things have a service life of about 100,000km which happens to correspiond with the warranty period .... Rolling Eyes

Performance plugs are also in the same vane as Energy Polarisers, Static straps, undercar neons, huge rear wings, fuel consumption improvers (all types), etc....

If these bits were really that good for that price, the car companies would use them in a flash - a classic example is the EFI system developed by Ralph Sarich for 2 strokes (the rest of his stuff was shite)

Oh dear.... time to go home Very Happy

leads are divided into crap and excellent. the difference being how long they last, not how good they work. modern elect ignition systems pack a big punch, so not much can really get in the way of a healthy spark.

that said, i just bought a set of MSD super conductor wires for *cough* $175... low resistance, low emf, and they look phat Smile

real reason i biught them is 'cause they were one of only a few manufacturers that made a custom set for the 7mge that fit properly Smile

I'd suggest you try one heat range colder than the stock plugs and see how they perform. If it pings, try going colder again. If the ignition breaks down under boost, make the gap a bit smaller.

Now that I think about it, you might be better off just using the same plug and gap as a 3S-GTE!

the only performance gains to really be had from plugs and leads is if your current ones aren't up to the job {dead} or if u have done massive mods and still running BP5ES's on a 700hp engine Razz

Hey, The Best and Quite expensive are NGK Iridium IX Spark plugs in tests they improved acceleration and torque curve, but dont expect miracles. Platimum Spark Plugs are also very good.

http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/products/cars_trucks_ suvs/iridiumix.asp?nav=11420&country=US

As for Champion Gold they wear and breakdown easy (a mate told me about a performance mag saying they improve hp, thats why i tried them, yeah they might make good hp for a month then theyll break down). They are crap im my opinion, i had them for 4 months and thought they were going fine, then i changed to NGK spark plugs and the car had better acceleration and torque that was noticeable. Very Happy NGK has been making spark plugs for longer than any other manufacturer.
