Whats the deal with non replaceable Uni joints?

As the topic sugests, 2 of the Uni's are stuffed on the tail shaft I was hoping to use for my manual -> auto conversion.
However they are those uni's that are "crimped / stamped" in for a better description
Is it possible to press these out as per normal and then get the new ones stamped / secured in the original manner (I see no previsions for a circlip). If thats not possible can a diff shop replace them or it it throw away time?
Rather not be throwing away my new tail shaft
Cheers

If it's anything like the tailshaft in an MA61, it's throwaway time. This is half the reason I now have a modified Hilux shaft in my Supra - not only is it stronger, the uni's are serviceable!

Yeah they are not that expensive to have the whole thing replaced anyway!

Hmm what is your definition of not expensive tho?? I was kinda trying to do the budget thing...
Hey norbie how much did your hilux shaft cost?
With enough pressure they should press out as per normal right? Then would it be possible to get a recess for a circlip machined in, the machining option (if possible) would have to be a cheaper proposition than a new tail shaft...not really chasing a high power handling item...
If push comes to shove I can get my original single piece shaft lengthened...

When I changed the gearbox in my TA22 a while ago I had the get the yoke on the tail shaft changed which involved cuting the complete end off and welding on the new one! Cost me a tad less than $120 which included painting and balancing!
I cant remember the place that done it without looking at the sticker on the shaft but I think it was called something like Queensland Tail Shafts and they are at Brendale!

From memory I paid about $300 to have my tailshaft modified, including a new centre bearing. The shaft itself cost bugger-all from a wrecker.
