I'm surprised that after the transplant his car is only 20kg heavier than the all alloy SR20! Is that true?

In the land of bullshit, maybe!!!!
The SR20 is an all alloy engine.
I also fail to see how a SR20 is only 20kg's lighter than a 1J, or did he strip out some excess shit from the car??
1J is 200kgs with all accs
A30-40E is about 60kgs.(This weight is not 1st hand info)

I thought the article said it was an SR20DE auto.
I've spoken to a mate with a Datto 1600 about the Nissan 4's he's dealt with. He said his Z18 was the lightest, then a CA18 and then an SR20. He said it was mostly to do with the extra features and accessories they kept piling on with age.

it did start out with an SR20 auto .. just to clear that up. I witnessed it switch lanes in the wet one day with the sr20, you can imagine how it is now with a 1j. Very stiff car with such power.

The SR20 might be all alloy, but it has a hell of a lot more of that alloy to make it as strong as a cast iron block. Most people seem to think that an alloy block must be lighter, but once you add a lot more metal to achieve the same strength, the advantages are somewhat lessened.
