(Initial D) Evo misfiring racesystem... Explain if real.

Hey,
I am an "amateur" car enthusiast, trying ot learn as much as I can.
I DO like Initial D, however I do know it is UNREALSTIC and for entertainment purposes.
So please dont slam me.
Just the Evo in it runs a "misfiring" racing system" in the engine. If this is a realistic modification system that is run on race cars.
Can someone please explain how it works and why it is effective and to what extent.
Thanks all.

Never having seen Initial D (and me with four sprinters!), I'd say it's anitlag. Used on turbo cars to build boost earlier, it allows unburnt fuel to be dumped into the exhast manifold where it ignites outside the combustion chamber to spin up the turbo, resulting in boost pressure. Yes, rally and some street cars dedicated to motorsport have it, though it causes the exhaust and turbo to shorten their service intervals.

i used to run it on my fj20t with an autronic
because when u run antilag yr throttle is never shut
at idle the throttle is about 10% open
so that means yr revs will be up around 3000
when antilag is on the timing is retarded so the revs drop to about 2000
but on an autronic antilag runs for 25 seconds every time u hit 5000 rpm
so if u r constantly reving over 5000 then antilag is on constantly
when the rally car finishes a race and then just cruises around
antilag turns off so the retard is no more
so to stop the revs goin back up to 3000 the autronic cancels
one of the cylinders to drop the revs below 2000 or even 1500
the good thing bout this is the autronic is smart enough to drop a different cylinder every revolution so that u dont foul up plugs
my fj used to sound so mean because when u drop a cylinder it sounds like the engine has some massive and wild cams
so i used to cruise round below 5000
if i wanted antilag id rev it to 7000
the engine would backfire as lound as a gunshot
then antilag would turn on
its not something u could run on hte street for too long and not get pulled over
i had a switch in mine which i could turn it all off
this would reset the throttle too
but after turning it off i would have to recalibrate the throttle if i turned it back on
and this took afew mins

Hey,
I just read ur post about the autronic..
So when it actually backfires, there would be kinda like a sudden jolt of power, coz the exhaust would be spinning the turbo quickly, how long do u reckon this would last??
And would u get wheel spin from it when it kicked in??
Mad technology though!

not to sure bout sudden power
its no tsomething u can test alot on the street
plus its been afew yrs since i played with antilag
u might not get as mich wheel spin
as the turbo is runnin about 5 psi or more at idle
so the power is half there
u dont have tpo wait for it to spool up
but between gears its unbeliveable
way times better than any back off valve
