Hi guys,

I have a serious question.
My gearbox of my ae92 rolla hatch, auto(yes start flaming if you must), quite frankly it is screwing up and sometimes putting me n a bad situation.

When i put the car into reverse, it simply does not want to kick in sometimes depending on the slope of the land around me, for literally 1 minute.
The reverse lights go on, so the electricals know im wanting to reverse, but on flat sloped ground, such as a car park, i will be sitting in reverse for sometimes 1 minute and still it won't kick into reverse.
I go to accelerate but its as if the car is in neutral.
I normally have to floor the accelerator, then the car will just lurch and make a giant clunking sound as it half kicks into reverse, then there will be another clunk as it goes in the whole way.
Its a little easier if im on a slight downward slope becuase the car rolls backwards when in reverse and kicks in a little quicker.

Reverse is the only gear that is totally f**ked.

Should i get a new gearbox, or is there a way i can get my current one seeing as only one gear is screwed, fixed by someone.

Thanks in advance
Brendon

also if anyone can tell me rough prices and costs of gearboxes/repairs and where, it would be much appreciated.

Yep, sounds like worn bands, for some reason reverse seems to go first, followed closely by the forward gears as the band shavings wear the other gears away faster. It's gearbox rebuild time dude!

You're asking the wrong people for costs. Go to a few mechanics, compare the quotes, thats how much it will cost!

i'll check the fluid level, but i would have thought it would affect all gears, not just reverse!
All the others are 100%, just reverse Mad

Yeah not harm checking the fluid level tho!

oldcorollas, yeah the fluid is checked when at operating temp, there is the cold mark but that is only for reference (I think they say something like 20mins of driving in the manual...hot anyway)

Cheers
