I have a pic of the new Supra Mk V that I found. However I am not able to host it. So if you want to see or if you can host it let me know. Thanks.
BTW it is exceedingly ugly. Gross is a better word.

Done dude.
Let me just say that this is not concrete as yet. But as far as I could find out (after extensive research) this was the one that they revealed recently (apparently).

It'd have to be either a turbo six or a NA 8.

I have heard both the 6 and 8 being talked about. Dont know yet. And yeah I have heard about the turbo being dropped, which is ridiculous IMO.
If this car really wants to be up there with the GTR etc, it needs a turbo 6. Otherwise it's just going to become like all the other Toyota sports cars and be just window dressing.

last I heard it was going to be an atmo 6, in the style of the 350z. which prompted supra fans to say toyota should be targetting the r34 gtr, not the 350z

They shouldn't be targetting the POS 350Z. They NEEED at least the atmo 8.
Regardless, if its a 6, its unlikely to be a straight six
Dropping of the turbo would have been to meet California emissions as they go on for a long time and the turbo cars can't meet emissions for as long...

There is no way they should target the 350z. The niche market is the GTR, supra etc. Totally different types of people will be getting the cars.
Besides, if they target the gtr, then they will be beating the 350z anyway, seeing as the gtr is a better car IMO.

FTO is exactly what i was thinking, lets just hope it performs better than a mitsu
The people at toyota always amaze me, the 350z is a completely different class to the likes of the gtr and supra, why would you not want to try and create a treu performance car? The supra has always been seen to be the other option to the skyline, why would they want to change that and try and break into a different market? i can understand cost, but shurely they will build some 6cyl turbos to keep the true fans happy?

If they were to drop the turbo which is what i thought was happening, what would you replace it with
Big $$$ went into the JZ series to be stopped inside approx 8 years of production. (compare that to the M series!) How does one improve on perfection?
To me it sounds like a big investment to create a totally new straight six series, in fact the economics of it would tell you that its beyond a reasonable option, just use the JZ series.
Can an existing V6 be used.....not that im aware of, a whole new north south V6 would have to be designed from scratch, expensive, however the new engine could be used and released (in a detuned form) in newer RWD family sedans etc, possibly chasers etc. So its a possibility but still pricey.
The V8 sounds like the best option to me, stick a VVTI 2UZ in there and bobs your uncle!! No extra $$ R&D required for the engine, just slot it in!
Ok, so maybe im a tad biased towards the option of the 2U.....but how cool would it be to have one!!!!
And a twin turbo one for the mentally imbalanced

Yeah I have to admit that would be nice.
The twin turbo in the JZ is still one of the smoothest/best twin turbo's around. So I dont really see any reason why they need to change that at all. Just stick that in a newer engine, and hey, presto!

I'm pissed about the looks too
first thought was "weirdly kitted FTO", which is not a good thing, since the FTO is a cheap and ugly imitation of the mkIV.
*sigh*
and it better either be straight six or V8 - nothing else sounds quite the same.
where's a 3JZ when you need one?
all alloy, TT, vvti, 400bhp!
ok, maybe that's supercar territory, but 350bhp (like the late model vvti turbo 2jz) would do me to start with

This is the engine thats going into the v35 gtr.
Its a vq32dett. 3.2ltre v6 dohc twin turbo
If this thing is going to be pushing 480bhp, i think that even toyota would have trouble making the supra equal to it.

I believe that the gentlemans agreement is not a harsh law, it was just mutually agreed on.
The r34 and mk4 supra both had over 280hp but they were officialy said to have less just to comply to the law

There was no law against going above 206kW, it was a gentleman's agreement between the manufacturers, but a couple of companies like Subaru have already publicly (I know most have anyway) broken it.
How old is that pic? I haven't heard anything about the VQ32 for ages, most sources think Nissan is going to take the simple route of using the VQ35. They want a Porsche beater with the new GTR.

That pic has been floating around on the net for years (literally). It's basically a photoshopped Mk4 with a liberal dash of wild speculation. I'd be surprised if the real deal looks anything like that at all.

i hope you're right. i cant imagine what the new supra would have to look like to beat the JZA80, but it would have to be ferkin beautiful.
and i agree- target the gt-r...the 2jzgte was said to be a better engine than the rb26dett (not toyota biasim either )....toyota should make a gt-r killer. and make it low and fat.

Because there is no "official" pic yet I guess!
Rule of thumb: if it didn't come directly from Toyota, it's a load of crap. They're keeping very secretive about their plans, so don't expect to find any pics just floating around on the internet.
