Hi,

Going to look at a supra today and it seems to have me stumped as I can't work out which generation it is (no photos to help me tell the obvious)...

As I understand, the mkII supra was built til 1986, and the mkIII being introduced in late 1986 and onwards...

What has got me confused is that the car supposedly has a 3.0L engine...now, I understood the mkII supras were powered by 5M's which is a 2.8...and the mkIII is powered by the 7M, which is the 3.0L...

The car is a 2nd month 86...which seems to be to early to be a mkIII but I wasn't aware of any mkII's that came as 3.0L, unless, it has a 6MG in it, but I didn't think that Australia got any of those locally delivered...unless it's an import...I'm not sure that Oz got 7M mkII supras either...

Either way, hopefully someone can help me, so I can decide whether or not to look at it as I have to travel a bit...

Cheers,

Ben

I would say its a MKII thats had a 7M-GTE installed in it. Its not uncommon for people to do so Very Happy

Either that or its a very early MKIII MA70! they came standard with the 7M. There was alsothe smaller 2L twin turbo G series model as well.

MKIII's were called the 1986.5 because they werent released until half way through 1986.

This was to get rid of the left over MKII's from the factory. Mine was 12/85 and sold in 86.

So it is either a very late model MKII with a 6M or 7M swap

Or an early model MKIII, which i would say is more likely because they would be built before they were sold Razz

No 7M MKII from factory.

The other possibility is it's a stock MkII with a 5M-E, but the owner has no idea about the car or the engine. You'd be surprised how many people fall into this category!

Hey peoples,

Thanks a lot for all your info...it was much appreciated and I decided to go and have a look at the car...it was a bit of a drive but I got a suprise when I saw it was an MA70!!

Checked the plate on the car and it was built on the 2/86 and complianced on the 3/86...so it is indeed a very early mkIII...car wasn't in too bad a condition, few minor parking dents and scratches and a touch of paint fade, the usual for a car of its age...looks like it might have had a hard life though so I'm still thinking about it...

Once again, thanks for all your help...I've gleaned nothing but positive help & information from this forum from the beginning which is fantastic... u guys rock! Cool

Cheers,

Ben
