jza-70 air filter replacement. Tue, 04 November 2003 03:06 Go to next message
Well, after exisiting on stock toyota paper elements for the last year, the time has come for a decent air-filter. Whilst the paper ones are OK, they clog up super quick and are costing me $56 ea.
I'd like to move to a re-useable/longer lasting foam filter...but it needs to fit into the existing airbox (I am fussy with engine bay aesthetics!). I've tried K&N etc but they don't seem to have them for the jza70.

Has anyone here kept the std airbox on their 1jz? Does anyone know where I could get an air-filter to fit?

Thanks,
Caelum

If your air filter clogs up super-quick, I see that as a good thing. Remember all that crap didn't end up in your engine, so the filter was doing its job! Some of these higher-flowing air filters are great at letting air thtough, but they also let dirt through... not so good.

As Norbie said. HKS make a reusable element but they let more dirt in (as any of their pods also do), alot more than say a good Pod filter like an Apexi.

I realise the benefit of good air filtration, and would like to get the same quality of dirt removal that the paper brings, but without the ongoing expense of changing paper filters so regularly....

I guess there is not much in the way of re-useable filters that offer good filtration? Confused

Otherwise I might be forced to go to a good quality pod, and try and fit it in as unobtrusively as possible. I'm moving to a different turbo set-up soon (and that will definately require more air) so perhaps it was ambitious to think I could do something with the stock air box....

Thanks for the repsonses guys.

You might want to check this out.

I myself use a Mine K&N Pod. Remember Pods are not road legal, to get it legal you would have to enclose it.

The apexi one looks the go in that test, or perhaps the K&N. Time to measure up the airbox and see what'll fit (perhaps with some modifications). I'd like to keep it looking legal if possible....

I think from memory, if you want to get a drop in filter into the existing airbox - K&N make one for MA70's. Less noise, stock look.

They do - but the jza-70 filter is a slightly different size to the ma70 one! (well different to the NA ma70 anyway). Not sure about the turbo ma70/71.
