Jab what?!!?!
Quad throttle body w trumpets Vs Single throttle body with pod filter. Tue, 04 November 2003 04:27 Go to next message
Another amateur question sorry.

I am guessing a quad throttle body running trumpets would be more effective as so many people want them...to a single throttle body with a pod filter.
But why? I am unsure exactly how a quad works.
A pod you can aim towards the front or front/bottom of the engine bay to get clean air being forced through it from the pressure created by the vehicle moving etc etc..

at any sane speed you will not be generating any significant intake pressure....

the basic difference is in the resonance tuning, and possibly the reduction in intake restriction. having the TBs closer to the head might also increase throttle response.

generally ppl want them because it sounds cool, not for any specific reason Wink heh heh

you can calculate the resonance properties of an intake, taking into account open and closed tubes (well, not closed, but having surfaces causing reflections, ie the plenum) etc etc...

for the average person, it's not going to make much difference. for the racer who needs the extra 2 or 3%, it can be worth it... but usually the extra cost to set it up is not worth the performance gain.. (then again, there is the satisfaction of implementing it)

a few thoughts.

An F1 uses the cars velocity to help increase air velocity into an engine when its doing 18000 RPM and close to 300ks, a 4age in a sprinter running at any speed the effect would be negligible as an engine can still only precess a certain amount of air and fuel depending on cams and RPM the engine is doing at the time.

Quad throttle bodies help because the air pressure and velocity is equalized in each throttle body.
