get in touch with ae86drift...

If not, hey occasionally go on ebay in the US for a whopping $120USD dollars..

they are original equipment though..

personally, I reckon ae86drifts ones look better...

the original one is printed on white contact film.. and so there is like a surrounding white layer around the words....

So yeah.. in a sense, the original ones like a little more 'cheapo'...

The trueno one, most definately! 15-20 minutes max

At $40 a pop? Laughing cheaper & safer to make it myself.

thats true.

Schao, the difference between garth's and the factory stickers is that his letters are indepedant components, the edge of the letter is the edge of the adhesive. With the factory ones, the letters/words are probably screen printed on a single (transparent?) sticker with a larger adhesive area and most likely have rounded corners as to avoid 'dog ears'. The corners of a sharp edge letter will eventually begin to noticably peel off from the sponge when washing your car, fingernails, etc but no doubt it looks much slicker.

*sigh*

everyones an expert..

if you re-read the thread i had very obscure references to make it right n the first place.

images of cars at bad/wrong angles, bad sizes of image and quality of image, getting the design right and as close or OEM as possile was the hard part, the actual illustrator bit was the easy part... i guess you know your way around illustrator with your "bezier curves" comment, so i spose your not being facetious in any way? Rolling Eyes

not to mention the zenki trueno logo is slightly different than the kouki one in width and line thickness so i had to remake it again for the correct specs...

the vinyl is automotive-vinyl so i believe its quite hardy and has srong adhesive to metal paintwork, but is supposed to come of with a heat gun and polish..

so please, stop trying to hijack my sale/efforts.

thanks.

the twin cam 16 logo, and trueno are harder and have a more obscure design than you may think...

Me and a mate managed to get a hold of some originals, and let me tell you, they are not as "arial, or Times new roman" as some may believe them to be. Yes, the original ones are on a transparent film. I've seen em applied on me friends ae86 trueno.

the 3m branded 'special paper' (whatever its called) used for making car decals should definitely suffice for the design. My mates got a small mazdaspeed sticker on his series6. It's got pretty sharp edges, but still hasn't come off. Its as nice as the day it was applied 3 years ago.
I reckon the mazdaspeed logo is more complex and have more sharp edges than levin and trueno. so in this case I really wouldn't worry.

Besides, if you take a look at the original twin cam 16 thingy, you'll notice how it's curved. So there is no problem there.

The only time I got 'dog ears' on a car decal, was when I tried to make a dodgy "twin cam 16" out of black electrical tape heheheh Smile

rock on.

The one doing the hijacking is you. Taking advantage and profiteering off the inflated price of the originals, giving your fellow AE86 enthusiasts the illusion that they're getting a bargain. Rolling Eyes I'll give you credit for shrewdness and wish you all the best.

Oh yeah, and if you're still looking for someone to do your badges, there's a place called Morris Productions and they are located in Campsie. I used them to do some metal badges about 2 years ago. My contact there was a guy called Josh. Apparently they did the decals for HSV and have a few automotive contracts. They did a short run when I used them (approx 100)

well at $40 they are a bargain are they not? whats so much of an illusion than a $100 saving? for a just as good or some think even better product?

i COULD sell them for more, but i kept it as low as possible for the ae86 enthusiasts..ffs ... what do you want me to do?

40 is cheap for this kind of specialist sticker.....

shrewdness? how so? these things cost me $30 to produce as a SET
VERY good quality auto vinyl and i include postage to any part of aus as part of the price... im TRYING to do the best for these ae86 people

i dont know why your so angry at the fact im doing this, maybe you think im ripping people off selling these for $40 a set? maybe you think ive done nothing to earn it?

oh and by the way what font IS it based off? i have about 4000 fonts here and i couldn't find it.. it would have been a MASSIVE help to know which font!

ps> thanks for the badge place info.

$30 a set for a bulk run single colour Surprised
Either you're paying too much or just full of shit or maybe both
I lean towards the latter.

Dude, I think it's great what you're doing and from the carefully angled photos of the stickers (keeping things 'obscure') they look very smart indeed and I congratulate you. The only thing that sounds dodgy to me is your blow-assing claims that you toiled for 100's of hours using poor reference to justify the expense and your refusal to send the files (that bit I can completely understand if your trying to make a buck).

no it wouldn't have. there's nothing hard about those logos that the pen tool couldn't accurately construct. Even with the 'obscure' reference.

think what you like 'mate'... its costing me around 30 for the printing and postage... maybe i am paying more than i should... but i want to make sure the stickers are of the highest quality, longest lasting material ... make it worth the $40 people pay me... and i think $10 for myself for the effort isnt too much an ask...

i did 4 sets of designs not 1 only, granted i only made "apextwincam16" once and copied it across all 4 files... still took me a while.... maybe not "100's" of hours but still a lot of hours...

i photographed them that way exactly for the purpose of making it harder to copy... it did take me a while to make so i am only trying to 'protect' my work...

if i don't want to send my work, then i don't have to. nothing to do with money or trust or "making a buck", it took effort to make, and for me to just send it to someone, seems a little bit of a cop out.

i obviously didn't do this all wholly for the benefit of others, i want to get a little back for my efforts, and i think 10 per pack is justifiable when I'm saving the ae86 people $100+

Quote:

well maybe not for you... but I'm not the greatest at illustrator so it did take me a little longer than you... obviously your a better "designer" than i.... i can accept that, many are better.

and what gives you the right to accuse me of deceiving these people? all I'm doing is trying to get something almost unattainable to the ae86 community for a LOT less than whats offered by the US ripoff schmucks on ebay.. i am making a "profit", but i did do the hard work and you can criticize me for wanting a little in return for the effort... as little as you may think i put in.

wow what have I started?!?!?! Rolling Eyes

Julz, from what I've seen these stickers are really really really good. size is perfect etc etc. And the quality of the material is good. I've had stickers that peel off at the first sign of water..

The only reason I asked for the file was cause i have a sticker machine here at work. But i didn't realise that that AE86Drift actually MADE the images himself. $40 is pretty good for a sticker kit and postage.. Even if it didn't cost him that much, he has to cover his time spend making it.. nobody works for free.. Toyota can get these sticker kits aswell, but they are like 1 billion dollars give or take (thats a hint of sarcasm for those who dont read between the lines Razz), plus they have to come from japan.

Anyways i'm happy to pay the $40 for the kit!!!! Smile will make my trueno just a lil more JDM haha..

Cheers

Gaz
