Windscreen crack - repairs update - anyone know of place that will install a 2nd hand one I have? Thu, 06 November 2003 04:19 Go to next message
Some TOOL Mad threw a beer bottle at my windscreen. (the bottle was in my front yard, the was a crack in my winscreen) This was during the day on the side of my quiet street

and it has about a 6cm diameter star action going on with about 10 legs eminating from the point of impact just to the right and down from where the rear view mirror sites.

that is the SECOND time I have had people MESS with my car for no reason at home.

Anyway, do you think I should try and get it repaired? What is a good place to do it? I have heard of a group called Novus who do something like that...

UPDATE: Celica Spares dude is giving me one for $50 if he can get it out without cracking it! But O'Brien want to charge me stacks for installing it. ANyone know of a cheaper place? Just like a regular workshop or something maybe?

call windscreens o'brien
tell them the size of the smash - they'll tell you whether it's repairable or not - if it is, either get them to do it (come to you) or go somewhere else
if it's not, start hunting Razz

Not sure if its different in NSW but from what i'm aware you cant actually repair the front windscreen it needs to be totally replaced as its a "safety issue". the crack causes weakness in the glass....i could be wrong..wouldnt be the 1st time Razz

that sucks rob...people that mess with cars on others property have no spines and should be shot Evil or Very Mad

jah that is what I am worried about, I will go down to Obrien tomorrow and see what he's got for me. Thanks Draven.

I have LOTS of spiders, but they are only like 2-3cm long right now.. Sad Friggn' morons. No respect. I spend more money fixing what other people do to my car that things that I do to it.

whack some clear contact over it so it doesnt spread
if it spread to far, it cant be repaired

and if its in the direct line of site for the driver, that are no allowed to repair

btw, most insurace companies give u one free windscreen a year

grrr Just got off the phone with the NRMA.

NO I do NOT get a free windscreen. I just don't have to pay the under 25 age excess, so it is *only* $450. losers. I don't know why I pay them $1000 every year.

So off to O'Brien it is....

if u really wanted to save $$$ you could get dodgy and try and repair it yourself...

just get the smallest drill bit u can find and drill little holes at the end of the cracks, and fill the holes with some clear adhesive or resin or something.

Mine was only $190 for a new windscreen. I'd be getting a new one. Pain in the arse, but think of how clear it will be Smile

i had my rear window removed so i could repair some rust
taken out on monday, and came back on thursday to reinstall it
$85

and i had a window swapped from one car to another for $85, as long as he was able to get it out without breaking it
i was impressed when he did with ease
