not that brake upgrades are all that technically difficult, i'm just wondering if anyone around here has ever attempted this, oh, and sorry about the reference to an RX7.
myself and a friend are currently in the process of thinking out a setup for his RX7. we are stuck when it comes to disc and hub. fititng any caliper is no concern, just a backing plate being made. the problem is that the RX7 has a hub type disc, and we're after an alternatine two piece hub with a separate disc. if anyone knows of anything that might fit or have done such a mod, please help us out.

if it is at all helpful, dimentions can be provided of the stub axle for fitting up of a hub from another car. custom bearings will be no problem, just need a hub with similar dimentions.

Check http://www.dba.com.au in the online catalogue they have the Dia, offset etc.. of all the disc'c they stock. Go through the various makes/models till you find a dia and offset that is appropriate, then think about how to space-out and mount the caliper.

we've already tried that, but we're not getting the results we're after. the S1 RX7 has a hub type disc, so the main cansern is finding either a hub type disc that we can make fit onto the stub axle, or finding just a hub from any other car that will fit the RX7 stub. that way finding a disc to bolt on, or a hat-type disc is no problem.

I'll presume you want to keep the same stud pattern. I think you have a 4 x 110 stud pattern. RX2-3-4 (and their 4 cylinder derivatives) have the same stud pattern. I would try them first - go to Pick a Part and measure them up. You may well need to machine them a bit. I also looked at your website and noticed you want to use those 11" discs....you will need to make sure they have enough offset so that when you use the 4 spots, they don't foul the wheel.

Why don't you convert the RX-7 hud type discs to hat type?? I did this on my '86 323. Are you wanting to use discs with really big offsets (ie commodore discs) to fit the 4pots?? But by doing that the disc sits in so far it hits the caliper mounts/steering ball joints etc... Is this what is happening??

nah, we're not that far on our way. we've decided to machine the disc off the hub and use the hub to bolt a new disc onto. and no we are not after a disc with huge offset. we will mount it all as far out as we can. we are aiming for about less that 5mm caliper to wheel clearance so we will not have such clearance problems with steering and suspension.
