Yep, they are a good stop gap measure until you can afford something decent, I installed one for a 3TGTE conversion into a KE30, and didn't have a problem with it, but also told the owner to be nice to it!

as Clint said, it's all about how nice you are.
i personally think that they are about the same strength, and both will die when you treat them badly...
i have heard of ppl with 4AG's with both types of diff with no problems, but then again, i know of a few ppl who have bog stock 3K's and they continually break diffs and axles... all depends on how you use it..
personally, i wou;d not bother changing. the Jap centres are very easy to change compared to the whole BW axle, and it all comes down to your usage.
Clint, so you think the BW is actually much better than the jap diff??

Structurally, I think they are moderately stronger, but not overly so (everone be aware this is my observation and theory, but not proven). Both are easy to break if not treated nicely!

having had both behind a ke30. BW wins hands down everytime. they tend to make more whining noises when on the way out while the banjo's seem to give no warning. bigger drums are an advantage aswell. they seem to be more common. banjos were only available on the imported japenese ke30s i believe. with early diffs like ke30/55 its just as easy to change the whole diff (drum to drum) then change the centre. we just mean you will have to bleed the brakes. my last diff lasted over 8 months on my ke30 before breaking. treat it with respect and it should last

Before i learnt to settle down a bit i did 2 banjo's and a BW diff in my KE30 with 3k. Not to mention how many gearbox's i went through.

interesting
the banjos are pretty common on KE10's and 20's and all the KE30's i have seen had banjos (55's had more BW due to more aussie content) although KE10's had BW's as well!!
i've only had 2 diff failures.. 1 was an a very long very high speed corner, and one of the pinion bearings exploded (literally). the other was two teeth coming off the pinion gear, fron fatigue... these are both KE10 banjo diffs...
gearboxes... ewww, they always break if you treat them badly (ie flatchanging)
anyone got some spare K40 internals in sydney??

I've got k40 guts kicking around
I'm on my fourth diff in my ke55, I've used both the banjo and the bogwarmer variety, and they're both weak as piss That said, either will last fine if you're GENTLE!
