is it possible? how much does it cost?
my brother's 1jz intercooler has died, and he cant afford a big FMIC upgrade, so he's just loomking to either recore his current one, or find a replacement 1jz standard cooler (the JZA70 front mount type)
can anyone help, with prices for recoring, or availablility of a JZA70 intercooler?

The core is usually most of the cost of an intercooler. Factor in the labour required to remove the end tanks and weld them onto the new core and I don't think you'd save much by doing this. The JZA70 intercooler is crap anyway - consider this a good excuse to get a proper intercooler!

If you can't afford another intercooler, you probably can't afford to have your existing one re-cored.

mmm - basically his entire core is screwed - he blew multiple things on the engine, resulting on the inside and ouside being covered in oil, not to mention half the fins being broken

Those supra coolers are basically all core and no tanks anyway - so it'd be kinda hard to recore it... What you CAN do is get it cleaned up (or do it yourself!), if there's only a few little holes in it, they can be fixed. If the whole thing's a bloody mess, go buy another one - although you may well find that an upgraded cooler won't cost THAT much more than an replacement one, providing you can fit the thing yourself.

you can get them repaired. I work in a radiator shop and we do alot of them every week. All they do is cleam the intercooler with degreasor and then use an epoxy to fix any leaks if t6here is any. Dont let anyone tell you it is stuffed until u have seen how badly leaking it is yourself.
