Hi,
The head gasket on the 7mgte has been retourqued to try and prevent/eliminate the head gasket issue. Is this enough or should i just put a metal gasket in to be safe?
cheers

If it's totally stock, the factory gasket is usually good enough after you've re-torqued the head. Just make sure you never overheat it! As soon as you modify it though (and this includes running more boost), you're taking a gamble. Some people get away with it, others don't.
Personally I'd hate to drive my car around being constantly afraid of blowing the head gasket. This is most of the reason I got rid of my 7M before I even began my engine conversion!

when i buaght my supra in july, the previous owner just had the headgasket done, i just recently retorqeued the head to 68lb's half the bolts were alot less then even 52lbs, i hope it holds up for a good while or i'll have to spend lots of money machining and gettting a metal HG/ARP bolts done.
*fingers crossed*

same problem matew tith 7mge as to 7mgte. Turbos were just more common due to their harsher operating conditions. O-ringing the head can be done to a slight advantage. Perhaps a thermofan to help prevent heatsoak as well?

The Soarer I have just bought had a blown headgasket 10,000k's ago and was replaced under a dealer warranty. They wouldn't have used a HKS metal headgasket... so what would they have used? A toyota revised one? And what would they have torque'd the head bolts to? Should I get them re-checked to be on the safe side? What should they be?
Cheers

should be torqued to 72ft/lbs from my memory. YEs definetly have them checked. Another bhg, is going to cost you 1k+ to have fixed. Theres a few you can use. Toyota ones are the best (unless mhg is warranted). Then theres a heap of brands, ranging down to the $30 a gasket suprcheap ones..which i strongly reccomend not using!

$30 7m head gasket where are you getting them?
In some cases no matter what you do nothing will prevent it going.
I have seen several where the gasket basically rots away and nothing is left of it.These I suspect where originals.
