My SX has runs quite harsh 3500-5000rpm, it's like something out of balance but it goes away as you climb furhter into the rev range. I don't notice it when the engine is free reved. The car has done 260k but seems to still go strong. Could this be caused by low fuel pressure?

usually a timing related problem (no power before certain rpm, but no problem with free revving)..
u have correct octane fuel? check knock sensor? any error code from ecu? check ignition system from distributor shaft, distributor cap, rotor, spark plug wire & spark plug? Your description really sounded like timing being too "retarded"

cannot imagine it being "not enough fuel" because higher revs naturally needs more fuel, so could be the dizzy (or part of the ignition system) faulty ECU could cause all types of problems, but they're usually fairly reliable, so I'd check the ignition system first..

fuel pumps do have a tendency to fail if the car constantly has less than 1/4 tank of gas, this is because the pump relys on fuel to keep it cool

There is an error message from the ECU but it indicates the o2 sensor circuit failure. I was unaware that this model has a knock sensor, where is it located?

since you're getting an error with the oxygen sensor, I suggest you should check it first, take the sensor out and see if it's worn (is the top part of the sensor worn with holes or crack etc.) if not, clean the sensor with steel wool, clear the ECU memory and drive a few hours and see what other errors is left in the ECU..
