Engine Conversion Legalities Sun, 09 November 2003 07:05 Go to next message
Hey, I am thinking about putting a 3SGTE into my ST184 celica. I was wondering if anybody knew what process I have to follow in Queensland to make this legal. Would my third party/fire/theft insurance go up much? Would rego or anything like that change?

My car has 266,000km on it, so i want to swap it for a low milage turbo one instead. Also, if anybody has done this or has any helpful links that would be great.

i know ive said it before - but why not save up and get a real Gt4 instead .. It will cost you less overall - and have the brakes/gearbox to match the motor ..

Exactly the same advice I'd give too. Wink

You'd save a fortune by just buying a real GT4.

As Stuart has mentioned, on top of that you'd also have all the rest of the bits such as intercooler, bonnet scoop, suspension, etc, and already legal. Plus it will be AWD and not FWD.

yupyup ..

with all that power you got to be able to put it to the ground and Steer around corners - Gt4 does this very well .. very VERY well in my cars case.

Hmm, i think you guys were right.

I was just thinking about it because then i don't have to worry about trying to sell my car, then finding a GT4 that hadn't been thrashed. Oh, well, better start looking

Maybe he's got a spare 5-speed Soarer that isn't thrashed too Wink
Sounds like a group buy is an order Razz

I got fed up with looking for a non-thrashed 5-speed. I still don't think they exist, so a gearbox conversion kit is on its way from Japan Very Happy

they are about - just look for one that hasnt been overly modified - that hasnt has aftermarket shit bolted all over it - and that has a good feeling gearbox .. Also if you test drive it - turn to full lock in either way and do a figure 8 - if you hear clunks - the front CV's are worn and will need replacing - which cost a pretty penny

Mine had minor mods done to it ( boost controller , exhaust ) and its motor is in top order ..

the gearbox has a slightly worn selector fork - but thats to be expected for over 200 thousand KM ..

the bodys straight , i just need to repaint the bumpers and touch up here and there - Interior is immaculate ..

I picked mine up for 11K , and as it stands - is the most POWERFUL st185 recorded at Dyno day ( though that soon will change when justin and anhar , and danny get theirs rolling )

They are about - just be picky

And allan - PFFT to you - My gt4 will be nipping at your supras heels in no time Wink its only 11 KW down on your ma70 - that will change in a month Wink

mine topped all the 185's for the day - though id be certain they werent running more boost ..

i was about 20 kw shy of gary - which wasnt a bad effort in my thinking - seeing hes got a much better gt4 setup Smile

i know what hes planning for his car though - and i can confidently say i wont be near him as soon as he gets his motor sorted - its gunna be mad Smile

nods to power to weight - the 185's are heavy - aboout 400kg more than a sprinter - so it will still beat it - unless the gt4 has been modified to counter the weight ..

id say your 4agze would have a hard time keeping up with a worked gt4 like what garys got planned - quite hard Wink

personally im aiming for between 185 to 200kw at the wheels ..

i should see it in the 160's hopefully by the end of next year - before camming + bb turbo upgrade
