Replica GT RA20 (Rally Car) Tue, 11 November 2003 01:00 Go to next message
I'm starting a new project where i want to replicate the GT rally car Ove Andersson drove, preferrably the RA20, and am wondering if anyone has or would know anything about doing this? If so, is it worthwhile?

Don't know anything about the replica (I'm more of a corolla fan) but would like to see it done.

What sort of engine was Andersson running in that thing?

ToySport are probably still selling two 152E engines (16 valve 18rg)
They have been reconditioned and at least one of them has been built for turbo application.

and the price... wait for it...$7,500 US.
If you wanted to buy one of these, I reckon I'd do it soon, while the AUS dollar is still good.

I reckon the money would buy a pretty god engine, probably around 500hp, maybe more, depending on what you do for a turbo.

these didn't appear till the RA40...
The Orignal RA20 GT's they ran, can still be seen at a few club rallies. ATM Ross Dunkerton is trying to get a historical class up and running, your replica would be perfect for this class...
I order to get one up and running, it just the same as for any rally car. Strip, Seam weld, prepare engine, g/box cage, seats, harness and Good brakes! (orignals had AP or Brembos). Get in touch with CAMS and you may well still find you get the homologation papers ie Excactly what went in them. I managed to Get the RA40's 20 odd years after they were raced.

Well I still have hassles keeping in front of these, Datto 1600, 200B's and I'm running a '96 rolla.... that Green Terror Vibert Runs, TE?? Corolla, who's gunna catch that!! (Next year Andrew Laughing) In Rally, it's not massive amounts of HP, it's Torque, ablity to actually drive blind and Reliablity that wins.

Ok I stand corrected... been a while since I've read TTE history..... but in '77 homologation ran out on that design for that car... again check the papers.
Ps where's the rest of their cars on that site?
a Nice TE27 Levin would be nice too, especially using the PRC pre-'86 ruling... 2TG stroked to 2.0l, EFI, blah blah...
