1G-GTE boost Tue, 11 November 2003 09:31 Go to next message
One of my mates has just bought a MA-70 supra with a 1G-GTE
Just wondering what type of performance u would get out of this car??
Engine is stock just with boost controller (what boost can this engine handle with stock turbos??)
He will be gettin a decent front mount soon.

Why would some one use a 1g instead of a 7M???

Cheers fellas

I don't wanna sound rude when I say this but its probably just a GA70, most people don't know the naming conventions and I can't forsee someone retrofitting a 1G where the 7M was.

Nah dude thats exactaly what i thought when he told me. Replace a 3ltr with a 2ltr sure its a turbo but capacity is still important just doesnt make sense.
I think he told me it is a 88mod

The naming convention is the same, its a GA70 (because it has a 1G). I'dpeg the weight somewhere around the mid 1400kg mark. Probably do 0-100 in the high 7's.

Its a GA70 for sure.
Depending on the year of the car it will have either 185bhp or 210bhp and in either case push out about 9psi boost std. I would not pump it up beyond 12psi as the twin turbo's on it are small and run out of flow quickly and your fuel and ignition mapping won't go beyond that sort of boost level. Retarding the static timing a little will help at the higher boost levels but you will compromise its low boost running slightly.
Cheers,
Mitch.

They do, in the years 1985-87, the 88 onwards 1G-GTE has a A/A IC and factory quoted 210bhp.

Mitch.

Did the Supra come with the water/air versions at all though? I haven't seen any of them, all I've seen is air/air ones. By Grant's site that would be 210hp, even if it doesn't distinguish between Gen2 and Gen3.

GA70's only had air/air intercoolers, and I'm pretty sure they were all Gen3 1G's.

No arguement from me, perhaps the 1988 and beyond A/A 1G-GTE's only ever got fitted to JDM Soarers, Chasers, Crestas, Cressida's and Mark II's. Either way, I'm sure you could fit one to your car.

Mitch.

What would go harder... a 1G-GTE GA70 or a 7M-GE MA70?

Cheers
Paul

Keeping it on boost the GA70 would probably win as it has a bit more power and would be lighter.

I have a friend considering both, which would be the best one to go for?

And what do each of them fetch $$'s wise?
