Clutch for 4agze Wed, 12 November 2003 05:00 Go to next message
Hey guys, my current clutch's days are numbered and I am wanting to upgrade when I have to chuck a new one in (its oem atm) so I'm just looking for some guidence.. its a 3rd gen 4agze mated to a 20valve gearbox.

Any opinions? I'm not really strapped for cash but I also don't want to waste money on smoething that I don't need. I don't plan on modding it any further past what it is (stock boost with exhaust and filter)

Some phone numbers would be appreciated, I'm in canberra so that is preferable but sydney is ok as well.

thanks

-Andrew

what clutch have you got atm...standard organic?

my old gze had a 3 puck button clutch...a little annoying to get used to at 1st as you'll find the clutch is either engaged or it isnt Smile button clutch is a little harder to ride when it comes to the around town stuff but the advantage is when you wanna give it some it will bite...no slip whatsoever...& depending how you drive it will last around 6-12 months

button wont be as "heavy" as a heavy duty clutch with a large sized pressure plate

hmm I'm not sure I want to go as hardcore as a 3 puck clutch Smile what clutch types are there these days? and the 20valve box uses the exact dimensions a regular 4age does right? As in flywheel and clutch sizes... I'm not shy of going custom either

Freak i am having a really good run with a Daikin organic clutch plate. and i had the fulcrum points moved on my old pressure plate to give it more clamp pressure.
this is on a 4agte running a low 7psi.

if you go organic wont you find that you'll need a larger pressure plate (1tonne+) otherwise you'll be changing the clutch every 2 months?

you've gotta weigh up the pro's and cons.
standard disc/HD pressure plate too heavy, not really suited to prolonged abuse...wears out quicker
3 puck brass button solid centre too grabby, no good for a daily driver but you will get used to it...good for 4k launches Evil or Very Mad

im not sure but i think you can get some sort of a hybrid 5puck brass/ceramic clutch disk and slightly larger pressure plate and get the best of both worlds...cant you???
