TA23 Head Lights

While I love my car the head lights in it are just too dim, I drive my parents AE102 around and its head lights on "normal" seem to be brighter than my lights on "high beam", the light is also "whiter" which I think makes a difference. I'd say the globes in the AE are halogen, thus the stronger, whiter light. I'm not sure but I've heard around that TA23 lights are a single piece unit where you cant actually remove the bulbs, is this true? If it isn't is there a suitable halogen globe I could replace the originals with?
Thanks,
Nath

yup they are a sealed beam. You can however buy a lens that you can put bulbs into. How good is your alternator because this will play a big factor in how bright your lights are. I modified mine and added 150w driving lights works a treat can see a good 200m down the road at night now.

you can buy 100watt high quailty sealed beams that are as bright as anything!
as for normal head lights get a a h4 upgrade which convert ya lights to interchangable globes, which work better as well

Don't bother with the 100 watt sealed beam units! They are really great at lighting up the road, but when you have to come down to low beam, its like someone turned the lights off totally!. Your best option is to buy the units that you can replace the halogen bulbs in.

yup. am converting my ta22 to the semi sealed beam units
NARVA make these and are ADR approved
they are 85 for the high lows and 85 for the highs
HELLA also make these kits but are like 270 for the highs and even worse for the high lows

they aren't using Relays. So the power is going from the battery to the switch to the lights. If you put a relay in it will improve the power sent to the lights. It can be a pricey installation. But it will get more power to the globes. All new cars use Relays. ie: the switch in the car simply tells the realy to send power to the lights. Instead of the switch sending the power to the lights.
cheers,

relays are not pricey, a good narva one will get you back $5.
my TA22 does have a relay for the lights - its pretty antiquated though and a strange config - u can hear it click when u flick to high beams.
if you're not using a relay, and you're fiddling with your switch to make it work - what taplus22 said - you're prolly burning out your switch so get a relay or two in there ASAP - ideally two - one for the lows, the other for the highs. use a standard 4 pin for the lows, 30 to +12v, 85 to ground, 86 to headlight switch (for low beam on) and 87 to the LOW pin on the headlight
similaraly for the highs, use a 5 pin relay (non switching type) with 30 to +12v, 85 to ground, 86 to headlight switch for high beam and 87 to the high/low lights (high beam feed) and 87a to the high beam (inner lights)
also make sure you have really good earths around all your lights.
also remember that 55/60 is ADR approved for your high/low and 60 for high (inners)
hope this helps.
