Fuse keeps blowing (thermo fans)

I have a twin thermo fan setup, they currently run off a toggle switch from the dash (on/off) , take power from the battery, switched by ignition and run a 15amp fuse with a 40amp relay.
Everything ran fine until 2 days ago when the fuse and the casing it was in totally melted or pardon the pun 'fused' together!
To get home i hacked at it and replaced the fuse with another 15amp.
Everything is fine and operational unitl just now when i deceided to turn them off. (already in the on position before ignition).
Flicked the toggle to off and blew the fuse.
Any ideas on where to start.
im sure cool1 will suggest its a bad earth.

could it be they are sucking too much power? Try two 15 amps (1 for each fan) and see if they blow...

Pulled it apart, wired it up nicely and neatly, got rid of excess wiring.
Works a charm.
Go figure?

use a 30amp curcuit breaker. I do not suggest fuses for thermos unless you use at least 60a.
On start up it is basically a dead short across the fan motors but once there running the current comes back.

Why would you use a circuit breaker when you can use a 10 cent slow blow fuse?

i use curcuit breaker because they auto reset. A fuse wont replace itself when it trips.

But a circuit breaker will trip before a slowblow fuse would.
