rx7 turbo on a 4agte question

gday, i have two questions actually
1.yesterday i saw a series 5 turbo a guy was selling, what i would like to know is: what do u guys reckon about these turbos? and how well would this turbo go on a 4agte setup? what amazed me was that the wheel on back of the turbo(not sure what the technical term for that is called) is as big as the ct26's of the 7m. Has anyone seen or heard of these turbo used on onther applications, are they reliable turbo's this one has done 40k's only.
2. how much are the series 5 calipers worth? Are they any good to be used? do u fit them onto your normal hubs & rotors, or do u need different fitting? are they easy to fit or is there alot of modification to be done to get these on?
thanx for your time

Hi there sprinterboy
The series 5 turbos are very a strong turbo but I would only fit this if you were trying to get a lot of power out of your motor as they need a lot of exaust gasses to get them to spool up.
So you might have to do a bit of port work to acheve this.
Asfor your question on the name of rear wheel its called a an impeller and exaust housing

As said, turbos on rotors tend to go pretty large in the exhaust housing, but the Mazda turbos do have the benefit of a lot of people have experience mixing 'n' matching different wheels, housings, etc. onto them

Actually the impeller is on the compressor side. The wheel on the exhaust side is called a turbine.
I have a series V RX7 turbo at home which is going on my 18R-GEU eventually. The exhaust housing on that thing is HUGE, probably a bit bigger than a 7M CT26, and I'm expecting lag city when I put it on my 2 litre engine. The lag would be ridiculous on a 1.6 litre engine.

The exhaust A/R on a series 5 turbo is up around 1.3 I think, a CT26 would be around 0.9 i think, anyone know exactly? Basically rotary exhaust gas is hotter and therefore takes up alot more volume than a conventional petrol piston engine, this is why the exhaust housing is so big. Diesels also have hotter exhaust gas too, truck turbos like T04's TA45's etc. have exhaust A/R's something like 1.3 too, this is why these things work well on rotors.
I wouldnt put a series 5 turbo on a 4AGE. I know a guy who had one on an SR20 in a Bluebird TRX, he ran 13's put it was ridiculously laggy for the power output, full boost wouldnt be till like 4500 - 5000 RPM.
A CT26 off the MR2 would be a good option, or a RB25 ball bearing T28.

i have built a 13BT s5 turbo for my 4k (1.3L!) using a 12AT 0.88 a/r exhaust housing
it will still be laggy but using the much smaller exhaust housing will make it work a lot better on the smaller engine than if i left it with the split pulse s5 housing
it is not a bolt together job but you only need to have the 12A housing machined a bit to fit the 13B turbine wheel and modify the wastegate actuator slightly
a t25 ot t28 (i think thats what they are called) off a ca18 or sr20 nissan motor will probably suit your application more than the hitachi/mazda unit

my mate had a 13b turbo, turbo on an rb20. boost was starting to do something at 4000rpm! put that thing on a 4ag and see how it goes!
I don't think so. I think a t28 sized turbo suited to a 2L piston engine would be much more beneficial.
