Are the temp controlled switches fitted into the radiators earth switched? Just need to know as I have the thermo controlled through a relay in the original fuse box from the conversion donor car which is earth controlled. Or is there an easier way?

BTW it's on a MS55 with 5mge.

if your talking about the adjustable thermostat type, then it can be either positive or negitive switching(just depends how you wire it up). I would suggest neg switching as then you do not need to run so much cable.

Needs to be neg switched as the relay is setup that way. Not necessarily after an adjustable type, they are usully too bulky. Just ont tp screw into to rad unless some one knows if there is a sensor or switch in the block to control the same thing.

sorry if it's slightly O/T

i recall a tech article on <http://www.autospeed.com.au/> that used a sensor (thermister) mounted in the airstream to trigger a simple relay curciut (with anti-bounce to prevent rapid cycling of relay).

I can't find it on their site at the moment but someone who used to read autospeed might have a copy. It was based on a relatively simple circuit they used in a number of things (an air-speed sensor and temp sensors to drive a water-sprayer for intercooler and such-like). It used parts you could source at jaycar.

charles.

So I bought a Tridon generic Thermo Fan Switch (as labeled on the box) 0n at 97/off at 92 deg. Fitted it to the new fitting in the new radiator and the fan stays on.

Turns out that this switch is for some reason on until temp, then turns off. Is this normal and as I have been told used to switch a different type of relay (normally closed)? I am using the headlight relay in the fusebox from the engine concersion (earth switched) hence the reason I wanted to switch it through the rad switch.

Couldnt find a web site for tridon themselves or a site with a wiring diagram for the switch. Can anyone shed some light pls.

you need a blower relay that's goes O/C when the solenoid is powered then closed when power lost (e.g. the tridon thermo switch hits temp)

you have to feed power to that relay from a main power relay otherwise it'll stay powered 24/7 and your battery will go flat,

alot are wired up that way so if the switch fails the fan stays on.

Yup. Simple as that, you just need to use 2 relays and the standard Toyota switch that comes fitted to many different cars will do the job nicely Evil or Very Mad
