Here's a picture of what I'm thinking for a colour/mag combination for my car, post 1G install of course

people who have seen the car think I'm insane for wanting to respray it cause it is a really good job, but hey

It needs a Black stripe down the side....
or at the bottom.
that's almost the same color I'm going to use.

I'll third the smaller wheels. Probably 16" would be a good size, and while your at it, make sure whatever size wheels you put on, fill em up wityh barkes.
Nothing looks shittier than huge wheels with crappy brakes and painted calipers !!!
Love the colour !!

that colour is mad! i love it, im just not 100% happy with the rims, i like to see closed in chromes on old celica's. Just my 2 cents.

thanks for the positive feedback guys. The wheel's I'd be looking at would be around 16", just abit hard to know how big they are when you're messing with it in PS
Calipers, well I will be doing a brake upgrade with the 1G ofc, and I do want rear discs, so painting the calipers orange, or probably red actually, would be on the cards for sure. red calipers look awesome on any colour car imho
mudflaps would be lost as well, tho sometimes looking at the crap buildup on them that doesn't hit the paintwork... maybe just some stubbier ones

Definantly 15's or 16's with more rubber ..
Liqourish ( ie paper thin tyre walls) on a Ra23 looks yucko In my oppinion - you need a little meat on those tyres
otherwise - pretty cool colour

i agree with stuart here- paint is nice, but i dont think the wheels really suit, get some smaller, more old-school ones.
but hey, good on ya for whatever you do

Evil Foetus:
Yeah I did all the ps work, here's the original
http://xdesign.com.au/stuff/celica/side.jpg
I cut out the car, dropped it, which you can see by my really bad clone stamping across the top, once again, couldn't be bothered making that look perfect
then I cut out the bits I wanted to colour, desaturated the layer, then did a colour overlay layer effect and changed the blend mode to colour
mr ice:
If you look at the original, I think its lowered enough. I still want this car to be daily driver, so it has to get over speed humps etc etc and see lower posts and also ta23 about mudflaps
cmk2:
Yeah I looked at the simmons range, they look cool and old skool, but I do like the spoke mags...
Classique71:
yeap, Jamies car made me think about those kinda mags, and I think they look awesome on darker coloured cars, it would look crap if my car was still silver, but when its the darker orange I reckon it looks mad. I wouldn't even mind getting white ones like he does rather then silver. *see's cmk2 type 'LANCER RICE!!!!'

cars can be too low. My uncle's old EB falcon was so low and with skirts it had to take driveways at an angle for fear of scraping. That's too low

quick image update, I've changed the colour to more of the blood orange from the BA falcon, which is the colour I love, and removed the protective strip from the door edge. Last owner put that on when it was painted. Looks abit ugly but has saved me a few times

I agree with the black stripe thing. Check out an original Celica GT stripe (like the BA GT, thick middle stripe with thin stripes top and bottom, V cool

What about maybe removing the door locks? That always looks good on cars that have separate door handles & locks.

I've thought about that, deleting the door locks and just having remote central locking. It would look pretty sweet, just a matter of cost and trouble, which I imagine would be negligable on both counts.

Man, the BA paint scheem would be a nice touch. Seems to show off the shape of the car a little better. As with the mags, look up the old rally wheels that the Evo's ran. Thay are like a 20 spoke but with this plate the sits out a little to help in brake cooling. I think that Speedy make a simular mag. If not, what about a squared off 5 spoke in a gun metal grey. They would give the car a real street race look and a tuff stance. Proberly go 15-16" and something to take 205.
Just my thoughts.

I'm not really a fan of small spoke numbers on this model car. I like either the mesh style, 3 piece style or lots of spokes as per concept pictures

ah that sucks. I'm sure there are some other ones out there that look the same/similar
as for size, I've got 15's on my black celica and at their ride height I reckon they look cool, so I figure with 16's, and a lower profile, it would be about the same wheel height http://xdesign.com.au/stuff/celica/sly.jpg
as for how I did it
I cut out the car, dropped it, which you can see by my really bad clone stamping across the top, once again, couldn't be bothered making that look perfect
then I cut out the bits I wanted to colour, desaturated the layer, then did a colour overlay layer effect and changed the blend mode to colour
so in the end there are three car layers, the original one with the top section stamped/cloned/coloured out, a lower one that has the same colouring for things that don't get their colour changed, like the windows, door locks, etc etc, and a third layer that has been desaturated, then had a colour overlay put on it. The nice thing about doing it like this is that its easy to adjust the colour whenever you want

Go 16's for sure. I've got 15's on my TA22 and they look small, but then again mine is standard height and looks like a tractor.
Ever considered dual black racing stripes down the bonnet, Ford GT40 style?

I've always liked the one thick one thin off centre strip ala Monaro style better then the two thick Cobra style stripes personally. Still don't think they would look all that good on the ra23 tho
