4AGE idling problem when engine getz hotter Tue, 18 November 2003 20:38 Go to next message
heyz just wondering if anyone have this problem before ...

it just started the other day when i was driving on a very hot day and my engine temp was in the middle and all of a sudden when i was slowing down and clutched it to nutral the idle just went past 1000 rpm like it wasnt even there and then when it hit 200 mark the engine just klonked out and for the rest of my trip i alwayz had to heel toe it and keep reving at the lights just to keep the engine running ... and the other cars thought i wanted to race >.< like not even! ... and no the car wasnt overheating ... the needle on my temp guage was on the middle ... anywayz yeah when i got home i poped up the bonnet and only to find some oil drops the size of rain drops around my engine bay which lookz like it came squirting out of my dip stick ... and i was like "wtf?" ... and i tried driving it yesterday when the weather was cooler and it was fine untill the engine gets a little hotter then the same thing would keep happening ... everytime i leave my foot on the clutch the idle goes down ... and today white smoke starter coming out when i drive ...

sorry for making this a little long but yeah i dont know how else i could explain this ...

any help would be appreciated ...

and ohh yeah btw i have read a few threads similar to this but i cant quite relate to it ...

This is the same reason why i put the 4age in my car.

Would idle properly, had no power under 3000rpm.

Remove the spark plugs and check for water damage.

If need be remove dizzy lead from the coil and remove spark plugs one at a time and try to start/crank the engine.

My guess is one of the cylinders will spit water at you, so dont put your head near the spark plug holes.

Doesn't oil out the dip-stick suggest that the sump has some how become much more pressurised than usual? Could an influx of water-> steam do this? I don't really know, I'm just speculating about your problem.
Good luck.

hmm well i have tried everything and even replaced the thermo stat and radiator cap ... and still the same and even getting worst .. i drive to my corner shop and the car's temp already rised up to high ...

i have come to conclusion that it is iether my radiator core being blocked (which i really hope it is) or my head gasket (which i hope is not) ...

tommor im going to get my compression tested to see if itz the gasket ... whatz the normal compression ratio for the 2nd gen 4AGE Black/Red top ??

also what is your theory of the problem ??

I had a problem just like that a few weeks ago when we had that insanly hot 2 or 3 days. i put it down to the aircon somehow. cause it oly did that idle drop thing when the air con was on, i turned it off and no more problem. I haven't had the problem since, although I haven't used the air con in a while.
