When you say you got it tuned, what do you mean, what was "tuned" exactly? Have you looked at the Carby? Could be an accelerator pump problem. Checked the float level? Temporary jet blocking sounds like BS to me.

Maybe the float level is so low when you floor it there is not enough fuel, it surges away from the jets. Take your aircleaner off, look down the carby and squirt the throttle with your hand to see if the accelerator pump is working properly.

At what point of tank level does the problem start?

Could be fuel moving around in the tank and away from the fuel pickup. i.e. baffles not doing their job or if fuel pickup has been changed at some time it may be bent and be not low enough in the tank. Does the problem occur on level ground, cornering left, cornering right, going uphill, going downhill, accelerating or a combination of the above ?

Could be some sort of surge problem?

I had a VK Calais with a warm 308, if i didnt have at least half a tank in it, it would surge. If i mashed my foot i would take off then a few seconds later come to a spluttering halt.

I have also just put in a 2TG and do not experience these problems with low fuel. It is consistent right down to the last 5 litres.

I assume you have twin solex carb setup?

Mine is shit from idle due to the angle that the accelerator cable attached to the throttle arm. The first 2-3 cm of movement of the accelerator causes a bigger motion of the throttle arm than the rest of the travel so moving the car from idle to 2-2.5k rpm is tricky. Probably not the same problem as yours though.
