I have never understood why these boost guages never sit on zero when no pressure is applied to them.....

When I went to buy mine the bloke dragged out 12 of them and they all were floating either side of the zero. He said they are like that because of the unique 'air core' that they have.
I bought one anyway and it was out 4 psi at the top end (30 psi).
I got a VDO one because they were spot on.
Dont get me wrong though, they must be doing something right because everyone uses them.........

No, they sell them mostly because they are cheap, give a near enough figure for most people (esp those who only want it for the w*nk factor who've prolly also got the blow off valve on for the sound only)

If you don't read upto 30psi (and most people don't) they're probably good enough for the average person who wants to know what the boost is doing & how much further it could be wound

its a mecanical device, so it relies on the Positive/negative pressure from where the gauge's sensor is. It wont go below zero unless there is a negative pressure on the sensor.

This is what I am saying.....the gauges DO go above and below zero with atmospheric pressure applied to them.
And according to the bloke at the shop they are not mechanical.
