Bosch or Magnecor Ignition Leads? Thu, 20 November 2003 23:29 Go to next message
I'm putting new NGK Iridium spark plugs in my 3S-FE RAV4 soon and also wanted to change over the stock ignition leads (5 mm) to something better. I've decided to either go with Bosch 7mm leads (B4106i) or Magnecor 7 mm leads (Electrosport 70). Which one should i choose and why? All input greatly appreciated! Smile

Give me your money and stay with the standard items, same for the plugs. Very Happy

I'll get more benefit out of it.

Gidday

Also have a look at TOPGUN leads. Normal retail for a set for a 1ggte is $87.00 (7mm) against $250+ for Magnecor - don't think Bosch supply them.

Mate,

I bought some Bosch for my 3SGE about 2 months ago.
No complaints so far and about 30% of the Price of Genuine Toyota.

Cheers

Thanks all. I did some research and Top Gun do not make bigger than stock size replacement leads for the Rav. They sell 5 mm leads for $125 a set. NGK i think also only make 5 mm replacement leads. That leaves Magnecor and Bosch. I think the Magnecor set of leads go for around $200 (still awaiting confirmation from Magnecor). I did some ringing around and Repco sell the Bosch leads for $270 Shocked while Supercheap sell it for $190!

FWDCelica, can you remember how much you bought your Bosch leads for and where from? Thanks Smile

Moz,

It was Super Cheap Auto in Sydney. (Warringah Mall)
They were about $85 for a full set of 4 leads plus the coil lead.
Came in the Yellow and grey BOSCH box.

Cheers

Umm because thin leads break down and let the spark out when they get hot!

thicker is popular with the V8 brigade cos they get "cross-fire" but that is usually cos they don't space the leads Wink duhhhh..

what matters is the clearance to surrounding metal objects, what you use to support the leads (non-metal), and lastly, what material is used for the conductor. considering most leads have a few thousand ohms resistance, and even then that resistance is very low compared to a 1mm air gap, pretty much anything conductive will work...

unless you are having leakage problems, why go to thicker insulation?
