O-ringed Blocked Assembly (7MGTE) Fri, 21 November 2003 08:07 Go to next message
Hey Guys I will be bolting up my head tomorrow but im having a hassle keeping the wire in the oringed groove's in the block? What can I do to make sure the wire wont move when placing the head gasket on the block. Ill be torquing the ARP headstud kit up to 75lbs is that ok? Cheers.

use 'hylomar' spray (and only the spray) from acl.

use it on the wire before seting them in the grooves, then do both sides of the gasket evenly (and not thick!) on both sides...

ed, why only the spray? I brought the ACL brush on stuff already, would that be ok if I brush a lite coat on the O-rings before I put them into the block?

what he said Laughing

but seeing as youve already got the little bottle, you could get away with brushing it on the orings...

but i would definitely only use the spray for the hg itself

cheers

Thanks guys, I also brought a deep 14mm socket so I can do the nuts up but dam the head is still in the way so ill be machining the socket down a little to fit (thats my plan anyway). I might just take the brush on stuff back and buy the spray. Once again cheers. Very Happy

From the ARP stud kit I got on Friday, it quoted 80 ftlbs for when you use their special lube, or 130ftlbs when you use 30 wt motor oil.

Cheers

reading this:

http://www.arp-bolts.com/media/pdf_files/arp_cat03 .pdf

id be tempted to say that 130ft/lbs with engine oil (assuming 80ft/lbs with ARP lube) is incorrect. you say its in the ARP sheet you got, but thats in conflict with the tech data on that pdf.

id be suggesting if it were 80ft/lbs with ARP lube, youd be looking at a max of say 100-105ft/lbs with 30wt engine oil

edit: my suggested ~20% increse over arp lube torque is in line with all other specifications ive ever read for arp products. the 60-65% increase for engine oil use (that you quote, and allan used) seems incredibly high, and inconsistent.

my 2c

Hi Ed,

I'm just quoting the piece of paper that was included with the studs. Very Happy

I'll be using the lube and 80ftlbs, but I guess the other option is when you either run out or lose it ? Confused

Cheers

I used the hylomar spray on the rings but wasn't happy with the way they sat in the block so I ended up placing 4 small spots of superglue in the groove and placing the oring ontop and holding them in till the superglued dried... Worked like a dream it was simple. I ended up torquing my studs upto 75lbs I think that'll be enough. Thanks for the help anyway guys much appreciated. Very Happy

Allan, so you would suggest a bit tighter then 75lbs how bout 85lbs? Got the cams in but it's only a 10min job to remove and replace them. Let us know what u think.
