Hey all,
Does anyone know a good and cheap place where I can get custom made door pods for my speakers around sydney? I need to mount my front speakers properly but theres no space anywhere to mount them on the door without having a custom pod attached. Its an corolla sx 89 model. Thanks

These words dont belong together
Custom door pods range from about $80 per door for a basic mdf vinyl wrapped pod (read: very basic)
to up to well over $500 a door for full custom fibreglass carpeted
most are $150-$250 a pod

I'd make my own if I needed them... I made my own sub box and amp mount to suit the dimensions of my boot. Door pods would be a little harder but couldn't be too much harder.

SX door trims are a bastard to work on.... thus expect MINIMUM $300 per door to get something neat and good.
That is cheap, for what you asked for. Expecting less would be like expecting 8 sec 1/4 miles from your stock 4a-ge.

Yea I called around a few places and decided its not worth it! So I'll just have to put up with the current mounting I have on my speakers. I think I'd prefer to put that money into a sway bar or some shit.

make a cardboard template. I did for an ma61 door, which is how i built my pods, and also built norbie's for him. Piece of piss really. Just requires patience to get everything right.

Yeah, I've decided door pods are all easy now that I've seen it done. It's even easier when you get someone to do it for you!

i did mine because i didnt want to chop the door up for my set of splits and they look a treat.
Make a base templet out of 3mm chip board or MDF and stretch flece/sloppy joe material over it to get the desired shape and then cover the whole thing in polyester resin like you were going to fibreglass it. Then cover it with the desired material took all up about 3 hours and about $40.

guys!
you are forgetting this dude has an AE92 SX corolla, which has MOULDED fibreglass doortrims (read: NOT FLAT) like your poopras and celicas... which is why i mentioned them being a bitch to do.
It requires a lot a fibreglass work, stuffing around, sanding, trimming and more moulding..... it sux!
That said i have built a few flat onese before.. and yes piece of piss. SX trims are not.

go to www.caraudioaustralia.com and they have a few tech articles how to make your own dorr pods and kick panels.
Door pods are not hard to make they are more time consuming then anything else.
Hope that helps
Cheers

Yes the stock door panel on the sx is a bitch! if only it was flat, then at least I could ofjust poked a hole and stuck my speakers in. Does anyone have any pics of the speaker installation on an sx?
