.....have any of you removed the gearstick, & if so, is there a little cup shaped bush over the ball on the bottom end of the stick?
Mine's never had one, so one day when I was at Pickies, I hunted around for a T-50, and found one, or what looked like one, at least it had the same gearstick and the base that bolts the stick to the box was identicle, so I took the stick. When I got home, I managed to pry the little bush thing off, but dammit, the little bugger was too small to fit on the end of my shifter. After closer inspection, my stick was thicker & had a bigger ball on the end. Funny thing is, when I tried to fit the smaller stick to my gearbox, with the bush on the ball, it wouldn't fit into the cup thing on the selector shaft. Without the bush it was really sloppy.
Today I got one of the little cup shaped bush thingies from Castle Hill Toyota, but it's the same as the one that's too small. Now I'm thinking maybe I got the one for the aus spec T50, but before I go back to change it, I wanna know if the jap spec has one of these bushes. It seems funny that the smaller sticks bush was too small for the end of my stick, yet too big for the selector shafts cup.
So anyway, if anyone has a jap spec box & has 20 min to pull the shifter out, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm hoping this bush will stop my gearstick rattling and just tighten things up a bit.

That little plastic thing you are talking about? I made a new one out of nylon on my lathe so it would be a tighter fit. This was for a TE72 gearbox.

Yes, mine had that little plastic cup as well. It too was getting sloppy, but that was fixed when I fitted the short-shifter to the box.

Thanks guys, I'll see what Toyota say about getting me one.
Bill, I put in a quickshifter not that long ago, so I can't really call mine sloppy, but it's just started rattling real bad, and always had the slight slop it would have without that bush. It should be a brand new shifter with it, as I've been driving it for a few years & never had it.
Jonny, I figured it wouldn't be too hard to make (with the right equipment) but looking at the bush I bought that didn't fit (too big for the selector shaft cup, & too small for the gearstick), it would need to have very thin walls. If I have no luck with Toyota, I don't soppose you have any more nylon blocks lying around?

Joel theyre about $5 each from toyota new, the new ones are a black nylon unit that is hard to fit over the Knob but once on rotate smoothley, with a short shifter you may find they wear a little quicker, if you have problems getting one give me a call and ill give you the part number from the ones I have here in the bag.

I would be giving you a call, but I don't have your number. (Wasn't there a restricted page for members no.s? I can't find it)
The one I've got that doesn't fit is also a little black number, so I'd be very interested to find out the part no. of the one you have. This one is: 33548-16010 Hopefully the one you have is different, cos this one definitely doesn't fit my shifter, or the g'box selector shafts cup (like I said before).
I'll be heading back to Toyota either tuesday or wednesday.
BTW, just for anyone who might be interested, my cut & lengthened short shifter shows no signs of cracking or wear after about 5 months of (spirited) use.
