Wheel spacers - Legal?

Had a quick search, but could not find any info here.
Anyone know the deal with the use of proper wheel spacers in conjunction with high tensile extra length studs in NSW?
Are they illegal/legal, can they be engineered legal, how do insurance companies treat their use, can you get defected for them, how do you get around the hassles without needing to change wheels ?

AFAIK they're illegal in all states.

Here is the short answer:
the fitment of wheel spacers (or adaptors for dual wheel conversions) between the wheel mounting face and the road wheel is not permitted unless fitted as original equipment by the vehicle manufacturer.
Here is the long answer:

According to the RTA here in brisbane, if the spacer is proply fitted (pressed onto the rim) they are legal! Although I did forget to ask who can do such a job! Then can also be pressed onto the hub, but his needs an engineers cert!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Is it possible to have spacers engineered legal in NSW? Any recommendations on engineers to talk to?

For an engineer in NSW, talk to Frank Lohning. Don't have his details, but you should be able to search these forums for his name and find details.
