sticky ae86 throttle Sat, 22 November 2003 09:01 Go to next message
i've been problems with my ke30 throttle cable on my ae86. sometimes it keeps accelerating when i let go of the pedal, and it revs out to 7-8000rpm for 2-3sec if i shift it to neutral to stop it moving. the cable or throttle itself doesn't seem to have much friction and slides freely.
does anyone know what the problem could be?

also take the cable out of the car and make it nice and straight, run the wire inside back and forth to make sure its not catching on any kinks in the shield, throw some moly grese on the wire and that will help if its not sliding smoothly and there are no kinks.

I believe removing the throttle cable and pouring kerosene down the cable is also a good idea, kerosene has a small amount of oil in it wich will help if it's sticking. Use to work great on my bmx brake cables when i was a young chap.

But first id clean the throttle bodie inside and out with carby cleaner to remove any yucky stuff that might be hidden in there.

Just my 2c worth

Hope it all works out for you.

thanks, the throttle spring was not on as the mounting position has snapped off. are there any shorter cables that will fit the ae86?
