RIP rolla Sat, 22 November 2003 23:35 Go to next message
Wrote my car off last night in the rain. I was driving on old berowra road going 40km in 2nd gear and all of a sudden around the corner my car slid out and hit a parked car and both cars are a write off Sad Sad

There was a shit load of oil on the road so that contributed for the slidding and now i have know car and the cops are taking 3 demerit points for neg driving leaving me with 1 point Sad Sad

I will post pic's soon

Long live the rolla's

take pictures of the scene
if you can prove there was oil on the road, you'll get off the neg driving charge

That sure does add insult to a bad situation,

parked car must of belonged to a copper...

I dont see how the can prove it is neg. if they have no proof, accidents happen...

that's irrelevant
if you have any sort of accident, typically you'll get slapped with a neg driving fine.

what most people dont realise is that this is standard proceedure, and if you have a good reason why it wasn't negligent, they'll typically just drop it, 'cause they know they wont win in court (especially if you have photos of the scene, and a statement from the attending officer always helps)

Hey im really sorry to hear that dude! Sad

Yeh and the neg driving charges suk as well! But draven has a point! Try and prove oil on the road and they may remove neg charges!

I also the other night lost traction goin 10km/ph around a roundbout! Car slid sideways luckily not to hit anything! Sorry to hear that dude! The rain causes all kinds of bad accidents! Sad

Long live the rolla's!

argh not cool....

its shocking when it rains and its been dry for yonks.. tends to get all the oil out of the road just ready for you to drive over.. Sad

but defiantly get some photos and try and pursue getting the neg driving dropped.

There was some oil on Mona Vale rd at St Ives this morning... Had my ass end in the other lane the entire way round a corner... It was awesome... I was tempted to go back and do it again but I was already running late...

I was at an 18th Bday party and i was getting bored so a mate and
i decided to go for a drive around 10pm last night drove down old berowra rd turned at the dead end and by then it was raining really hard. The first S bend going up my car decided to start drifting towards a parked gay Magna so i accelerated abit to pull out of it then i tapped the breaks then it locked up and ran up the arse of the parked magna. The road was so slippery because of oil on the road

I got the car towed home around 11pm and started taking all my bits out and i was up until 4am in the morning.
Know one was hurt but i have a sore leg.
The poor little rolla still start's too but has know coolant.
Its getting towed hopefully tonight so the insurance company can access's it then incomes around $7000 for the next car.
The thing that pissed me off is that i just put a new alternator in,K&n filter, cold air intake and i just got my exhaust sounding crazy by getting a bigger flexy join and removing resonator. Sad Sad Sad Sad all that was know more then 3 weeks old

Pic's will be up tomorrow Sad

That sucks dude. I hate it when the cops stick a charge on you like that. I mean as if I dont feel bad enough. The same thing happened to me. Had a crash in the wet going slow, and the cop turns up and puts a neg driving charge on me. As if I dont already feel like crap, you just lost me me license (was long weekend and on my P's). :'(

The corolla is now getting fixed because the insurance agencie
prefer's to spend $5000 on fixing it rather then giving me $7000 Mad . The car will be ready in a week and now i have to put my mags, system and all my other bit's of rice back on Mad

It was insured for 6000 but the damages came to like 5000 so they fixed it and the stupid car has had problems since.

Doors dont line up properly and stuff like that!!

Same thing happened to me... When I was hit in the front end, with about as much damage as yours, the insurance co. preferred to spend over $5,000 fixing my car than give me a cheque to write it off (I would've been happy to take the $5k myself)...

This was a 3rd party claim (i.e. the other party had to make the claim as they were in the wrong) but somehow they worked out a CS Seca was worth over $7k and they wouldn't write it off 'cause the damage was less than 85% of the value of the car... Strange since I paid less than $6k when I purchased it...

its a well known fact you aussies cant drive in the rain.. just look at sydney drivers... they get closer together and travel faster, even your govt. tells you to do the wrong thing by saying slow down by 10Kmh in the rain.... someone tell me how thats going to help when your all parked up each others date! not only that, now youve slowed by 10kmh youve caused a traffic jam and that just means more frustrated drivers taking bigger risks... no wonder the towies love the rain here.

common sense would tell most people to simply adjust the braking distance to a suitable level and keep the same speed.

I guess theres just not enough rainy days here for people to learn how to drive properly in it.

Here's what i can't beleive -
You guys are suprised by oil on the road when it rains.
Are you retarded?

1. Everyone should agree:
You can bet there'll be oil on the road from thousands of shitbox falcondores.
2. Oil floats on top of water.

Now, When it's dry, the oil on the road sits in the bitumen (bitumen isn't flat, you know).

When it begins to rain, the oil on the road floats to the top of the water. You end up with water flatening out the bitumen, with a layer of oil covering that.

After it's been raining a few days, the oil is usually washed away.

Wake up people.

Iam used to driving in the wet because i have taken my car to it's limits in the rain so i would know how to handle most situation's but this bit of road had alot of oil on it because when i walked over and had a look at the road it was very slippery and the cop that came to the accident stated the road had a large amount of oil on the road. Even the police car and about 3 of my friends/families car's lost traction when driving off.

Sorry, i just had the shits with people complaining about losing control in the wet, and the axe just happened to fall on you. Your post was one of the few non-stupid ones (cept the accelerating a fwd part) Embarassed
Did they whack you with excess and shit? If you have proof/witnesses that the road was unsafe, should get off.
